Abigail is known in the world of the Rivers of London. Here is perhaps the start of a side line with her stories. The style of writing seems adjusted to a younger audience. The first half starts very slow. It's rewarding to keep on and listen to the grand finale.

if you like know-it-all smug teens, this book is for you. otherwise i see it only as a way to get information about the world of the rivers of London series. The performance was not very impressive, especially if compared with the wide register of the reader of the main series.

Well... This was a bit of a let down. Let me start by saying that I've stopped counting how many times I've listened to the main books. Seven or eight times at least, per book. But this was just disappointing. First of all, there's the completely unnecessary "not eating when hungry because she likes to be in control" thing in the beginning. That's a text book sign of anorexia and Aaronovitch is obviously aware of it because he instantly has Abigail assure us that she's not anorexic, she just likes to be in control of her body. Okayyyyyy.... Then there's the language, half the time she sounds like a cliché teenage hood rat, the other half she sounds like a normal person. Then there's the Postmartin interludes which are annoying, disruptive and pointless. English is neither my first language, nor am I from Britain or a teenager under the age of 15. I'm still perfectly capable to either deduce the meaning of a word from context or should that fail, pause the audio book and look it up. I don't need the story to be interrupted to have someone explain it in an interlude.
The story itself unfortunately never really takes off. I've noticed that with his other novellas as well. There's nothing happening for the first 3. 5 hours and then he tries to squeeze all the action into roughly 45 minutes. I've either missed dthe part where the mystery was explained (possible because I kind off zoned out towards the end) or it was never explained. The entire thing with her dying brother vexes me, because it's never being mentioned in the main books. It's as if he doesn't even exist but then he gets whipped out of the prop box to add some volume to a thin story.
Then there's the speaker. I understand that they wanted to have a female speaker for a female main character but she isn't doing a good job. I'd honestly have preferred Holdbrook Smith because he does an outstanding job voicing everyone, including Abigail in the main series.
So, all in all, I wish I'd saved my Credit and just listened to Foxglove Summer for a ninth time I stead.
