Über diesen Titel

An uncanny literary thriller addressing the painful legacy of lynching in the US, by the author of Telephone

Percival Everett's The Trees is a must-listen that opens with a series of brutal murders in the rural town of Money, Mississippi. When a pair of detectives from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation arrive, they meet expected resistance from the local sheriff, his deputy, the coroner, and a string of racist White townsfolk. The murders present a puzzle, for at each crime scene there is a second dead body: that of a man who resembles Emmett Till.

The detectives suspect that these are killings of retribution, but soon discover that eerily similar murders are taking place all over the country. Something truly strange is afoot. As the bodies pile up, the MBI detectives seek answers from a local root doctor who has been documenting every lynching in the country for years, uncovering a history that refuses to be buried. In this bold, provocative book, Everett takes direct aim at racism and police violence. The Trees is an enormously powerful novel of lasting importance from an author with his finger on America's pulse.

It started brilliantly and loved the characters. But eventually there were just too many deaths- it got boring until Trump!

Trashing Trump

Crazy story. An absolute fantastic speaker wonderful and very funny characters with a very serious topic. The history of lynching in the US. Higly recommended.

Well read

What would happen if all those who were ever lyched by racists would suddenly rise up to take revenge? Of course the group with the biggest persecutional mania in the US, the far-right, would rally to defend themselves and cry for blood- no matter if their murdered buddies had all been responsible for some gruesome lynching themselves.

This novel highlights how cruel lynchings are, far from a "clean, quick murder" - and that most perpetrators of lynched African and Chinese Americans were never persecuted and lifed and can life among us... The narrative is told in an often sarcastic and grotesque way, an appropriate mean to counter the underlying issues: the dormant raciscm, which is always ready to flare up, thereadiness for violence and the horror of the actual violent acts.

However, I didn't appreciate the writing style of the novel, which develops into a film scipt rather that a book and it ends quite abrupt. The plot lines end in the middle of nowhere ( maybe to be continued in a sequel?).

A grotesque piece of satiric fiction

I got this book on a free deal, and I would not have finished it otherwise. The language was very offensive, though it fits the time and place of the story. But the story was quite weird, I feel like the author had a good laugh when writing it but I'm not in on the joke. The end was very sudden, and very weird. After the details that of the story its very unfortunate that the end was not given the same attention.

Very unique taste...
