So, I’ve written a book.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities (‘It’s a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!’), I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice. The joy that I have felt from chronicling these tales is not unlike listening back to a song that I’ve recorded and can’t wait to share with the world, or reading a primitive journal entry from a stained notebook, or even hearing my voice bounce between the Kiss posters on my wall as a child.

This certainly doesn’t mean that I’m quitting my day job, but it does give me a place to shed a little light on what it’s like to be a kid from Springfield, Virginia, walking through life while living out the crazy dreams I had as young musician. From hitting the road with Scream at 18 years old, to my time in Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, jamming with Iggy Pop or playing at the Academy Awards or dancing with AC/DC and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, drumming for Tom Petty or meeting Sir Paul McCartney at Royal Albert Hall, bedtime stories with Joan Jett or a chance meeting with Little Richard, to flying halfway around the world for one epic night with my daughters…the list goes on. I look forward to focusing the lens through which I see these memories a little sharper for you with much excitement.

Dave Grohl is a very down to earth guy, he never fails to impress with his honesty and humanity. I am not the biggest FF fan of all times, but I did enjoy this book immensely

Ich habe das Buch sofort nach Erscheinen am Kindle gelesen und jetzt auch noch das Hörbuch gehört.
Dave hat großartige Stories aus seinen über 30 Jahren als Profimusiker und Rockstar auf Lager, meine Lieblingsgeschichte ist die mit der verlorenen Geldbörse (auf Youtube nach Dave Grohl greatest story suchen) und sie ist natürlich auch im Buch.
Das Buch ist ohne Ghostwriter geschrieben und hat nur eine kleine Schwäche, das ist der zeitliche Ablauf, Dave springt hier oft in der Zeit hin und her, ist vielleicht auch als Stilmittel gedacht.

At times funny, sad and even enlightening, this is an engaging autobiography. No spilling tea or snares, just some entertaining stories that show that Dave Grohl is a really nice guy with an incredible musical history.

Well told stories, a bit humblebragging

Ich habe das Buch „The Storyteller” auf deutsch zu Weihnachten bekommen und es wirklich verschlungen, jetzt musste das englische Hörbuch auch sein.
Die Lebensgeschichte von Dave Grohl begeistert mich wirklich und dass das Hörbuch von ihm gelesen wird, setzt dem Ganzen die Krone auf. Vom schüchternen Buben aus Virgina, zum Drummer von Nirvana und Bandleader einer der mMn besten Rockbands der Moderne, dabei aber nicht abgehoben und mit einer Liebe zur Musik - einfach großartig!

Nach dem Buch musste ich auch das Hörbuch haben

Dave Grohl ist ein sensationeller Geschichten, Erzähler und das Buch hat den Titel tatsächlich verdient. Für mich wirklich ein Poet der Neuzeit. Und ein Mensch mit scheinbar großem Herzen. Seine Liebe zur Musik ist sensationell beschrieben. Sehr lesenswert

Einfach der Hammer!

Das ist die mit Abstand beste Musik Biografie die ich je gehört bzw. gelesen habe. Und ich sehe mich selbst nicht, als einen Hardcore Foo Fighters Fan. Das Dave selber vorgelesen hat hat alles nur noch eindrucksvoller gemacht. Es ist einfach absolut magisch, wie dieser Mensch ist geschafft hat, sich sein komplettes Leben lang, das offene Herz eines Kindes zu bewahren. Und das meine ich so positiv wie irgendwie möglich. nimmt eine mit auf die besondersten Momente seines Lebens. Und man lebt eine absolute Gefühlsachterbahn. Von laut lachen, bis schweigend, tränenüberströmt still dort sitzen, habe ich während dieses Buches absolut beides mehrmals getan. mein Herz ist absolut voll. Und ich werde dieses Buch bestimmt noch mehrmals hören. Der Titel könnte nicht passender gewählt sein, denn dieser Mann hat ein absolutes Talent Geschichten zu erzählen.

It felt like I’m sitting in a bar with Dave and he is sharing stories over a small table with me while we sipping beers after beers. I wish my dream come true someday and I can really have a beer with this guy. Great book! Maybe one of the best I read in the past. Highly recommended in audiobook version. Daves voice makes it real!

True stories from a legend

I know Dave Grohl as a great musician und live performer. Now i know he is a storyteller too. Listen to these "tales" from his life was fun. That he reads the story himself, is a great bonus. You can feel the emotions in his voice. Sometimes fun, sometimes contemplative. From his youth in Washington, his way as a musician, from his role in nirvana to foo fighters and also being a dad.
If i would compare this book to a Foo Fighers album i would say 8/10. As on an album, i do not like every song, but overall it was a great experience listening to.

Will listen to it again, for sure

Coole stories, down to earth, fantastic voice - macht einfach Spaß anzuhören! Ich finde es schön, dass Dave Grohl seine eigenen Geschichten auch selbst erzählt, das macht das ganze authentisch. Besonders schön finde ich die Geschichten aus seiner Kindheit.
