Über diesen Titel

Are you relentlessly curious and creative, always willing to rock the boat in order to get things done...extremely energetic and focused, yet constantly switching gears...intensely sensitive, able to intuit subtly charged situations and decipher others' feeling? If these traits sound familiar, then you may be an Everyday Genius - an ordinary person of unusual vision who breaks the mold and isn't afraid to push progress forward....

As thought-provoking as Daniel Goleman's Emotional Intelligence, psychologist Mary-Elaine Jacobsen's The Gifted Adult draws on a wide range of groundbreaking research and her own clinical experience to show America's 20 million gifted adults how to identify and free their extraordinary potential. The Gifted Adult presents the first practical tool for rating your Evolutionary Intelligence Quotient through an in-depth personality-type profile.

Demystifying what it means to be a gifted adult, this book offers practical guidance for eliminating self-sabotage and underachievement, helping Everyday Geniuses and those who know, love, and work with them to understand and support the exceptional gifts inherent in these unique personality traits.

I have never liked the fairy tale of the ugly duckling. Seriously, what kind of message does it convey? Being pushed to the brink because you're excluded for your appearance, only to turn the tables by becoming more beautiful than everyone else and then looking down on them in return.

How is this distorted metaphor the author’s first choice to describe the situation of gifted individuals in society? Is superiority truly the only way we can interpret our difference? We, people of intellect and reflection? Personally, I need a different narrative. I am not a swan; I am “just” a duck with unique traits. Instead of reveling in newfound greatness, I would prefer to explore how to find satisfaction for my senses and integration into the duck world.

I returned the audiobook and am now trying "Searching for Meaning: Idealism, Bright Minds, Disillusionment, and Hope" by James T. Webb.
Nevertheless, I am grateful for all the work being done in the field and for all the diverse voices and insights.

The ugly duckling...

I think I have reached half of the book but I can't go further. The primary idea revolves around the idea that gifted people tend to not recognise themselves as gifted (using the "ugly duck" kid's story to illustrate the situation) because they're thinking/acting differently, leading them into a life of inadequacy,
The book (rightfully) complains about the supremacy if IQ.

But it's just turning in circles, and it's repeating the same things over and over again about how gifted people aren't getting it easy and so on... with metaphors to really make sure it's even more boring.

But if you wish you were gifted, it's a perfect fit

Only read it if you wish you were gifted
