The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a murder mystery novel like no other. The detective, and narrator, is Christopher Boone. Christopher is fifteen and has Asperger's, a form of autism. He knows a very great deal about maths and very little about human beings. He loves lists, patterns, and the truth. He hates the colours yellow and brown and being touched. He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own, but when he finds a neighbour's dog murdered he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his whole world upside down.

Please Note: this title starts at Chapter 2. The main character has a preference for prime numbers, so he numbers his chapters according to primes: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 etc.

I highly recommend this book, as I found it to have a memorable and tender story. It is very well-read, humourous, believable and realistic at the same time. I have not had any exposure to autistic children, so this book helped me understand what they (and their parents) experience every day. And some of Christpher's little quirks seemed so normal to me...

Following the train of thought of this absolutely lovable character was really intriguing. Have you ever wondered about autistic people? (They might give chapters in a book prime numbers!)
This book definitely provides food for thought. The narrator's voice so captivated me - I just couldn't stop listening. Clearly structured and easy to understand.

it focusses on the (slightly cliché) picture of the autistic math savant, but that is understandable since it makes for a better story. looking beyond the specific personal quirks of the Christopher, the reader gets a valuable insight into some of the difficulties of living in a neurotypical world, where social rules change with the person and circumstances, where rules are frequently bent and plans interfered with, where the sensory environment sometimes makes seemingly simple tasks near impossible. and the author manages well to not lecture but instead just raise understanding for the sometimes extreme reactions of autistic individuals. he even shows some ways to compromise.
the speakers and sound engineers have done a marvellous job; i cannot imagine this sounding any better.

meine erste Begegnung mit einem authistischen Kind, die mich fesselte und mir großen Respekt abrang , auch für den Autor, der Gefühle und Gedanken so gut zu vermitteln versteht. Dazu ist die Geschichte orginell, freundlich und skurril- und geht dazu noch gut aus, was will man mehr von "guter Unterhaltung"?Toll gelesen, auch für Menschen die englisch nicht als Muttersprache lernten.

Dieses Hörbuch ist wirklich ein Kleinod. Wunderbar gelesen, schöne, ruhige Geschichte, die Charaktere klar herausgearbeitet und durch die Erzählweise aus Sicht eines autistischen Jungen besonders lehrreich und originell. Beide Daumen hoch!

I loved the story, it was cute and heart-warming and deep and shocking all at the same time. I don't know how often I laughed and cried while listening to it. Plus, I actually learned a lot about autism through this book. I can fully recommend it to anyone who's looking for something a bit different.

The only downside, though, is that although the reader in the audio-version is very impressive and I enjoyed listening to him from beginning to end, I think I would rather recommend a printed form. It contains many sketches and drawings which are lost in the audiobook.
