THE BELOVED #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER—FROM THE AUTHOR OF HANG THE MOON

The extraordinary, one-of-a-kind, “nothing short of spectacular” (Entertainment Weekly) memoir from one of the world’s most gifted storytellers.

The Glass Castle is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, and a revelatory look into a family at once deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant. When sober, Jeannette’s brilliant and charismatic father captured his children’s imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Her mother was a free spirit who abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn’t want the responsibility of raising a family.

The Walls children learned to take care of themselves. They fed, clothed, and protected one another, and eventually found their way to New York. Their parents followed them, choosing to be homeless even as their children prospered.

The Glass Castle is truly astonishing—a memoir permeated by the intense love of a peculiar but loyal family.

The memoir was also made into a major motion picture from Lionsgate in 2017 starring Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts.

I found it fascinating how the author was able to tell us the story while being so tender and loving towards her parents, especially her father. She managed to take us back to her childhood, when her father was her hero and nothing could change how she viewed him. Knowing what she knows today and having lived through so much, this is amazingly written.

it was the most fascinating listen I had in a long time. I think it should make you angry once you realise that it I'd a true story and the family lived through that. However to me it felt liberating, it was refreshing to her somebodies story from their pont of view without trying to make it better that it was, but also not hiding the truth. Family relationships ate complicated and whether it is better for you to walk out or forgive is strongly dependent on your reality. I think it's a beautiful and liberating listen for those who come from toxic families and a triggering one for those from more stable backgrounds.

it's a breath of fresh air

Beautiful and compassionate memoir. I enjoyed it, although it was shocking to hear that children are raised by such parents. She described her life in such a manner that I felt part of her world. She touched me and I will not forget this book.

Shocking to read about such parents
