Über diesen Titel
Even the darkest secrets can't stay buried forever.
Five figures gather 'round a shallow grave. They had all taken turns to dig. An adult-sized hole would have taken longer. An innocent life had been taken, but the pact had been made. Their secrets would be buried, bound in blood.
Years later a headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders that shock the Black Country.
But when human remains are discovered at a former children's home, disturbing secrets are also unearthed. DI Kim Stone fast realizes she's on the hunt for a twisted individual whose killing spree spans decades.
As the body count rises, Kim needs to stop the murderer before they strike again. But to catch the killer, can Kim confront the demons of her own past before it's too late?
Fans of Rachel Abbott, Val McDermid ,and Mark Billingham will be gripped by this exceptional new voice in British crime fiction.
A detective hiding dark secrets, Kim Stone will stop at nothing to protect the innocent. Silent Scream is the first book in the series. Watch out for Evil Games, coming soon.

I'm also tired of the old 'rogue detective with traumatic past habitually ignores their superior's orders and takes unnecessary risks' trope. It's been done to death, and I've really, really had enough of it. It's probably supposed to make the main character seem complex and mysterious, but it actually just turns them into a tired old cliché. And the unrealistic risk-taking will inevitably lead to a ridiculously drawn-out showdown between detective and killer. Long before the final chapters I knew that Kim would eventually go somewhere without telling anyone, meet or be suprised by the killer there and almost get killed in the process. I knew this not because I'm particularly smart, but because this happens to each and every one of those "rogue detectives". Dear crime writers, pleeaaase come up with something new, pretty please??
But it's not all bad. The case is interesting, the police investigation is well-paced, and I liked Kim's team - especially Bryant, who spared me a lot of anxiety by saving the dogs (thank you!!). It's not a literary masterpiece and it doesn't add anything new or unique to the thriller genre, but it's an okay read and quite entertaining.
The narrator did a good job, her voice and accent are pleasant and she doesn't overact.
Mostly okay
