Ehrlich gesagt habe ich nicht viel von diesem Hörbuch erwartet, nachdem ich die grauenvollen Rezensionen auf audible gelesen habe.

1. Ich finde beide Sprecher ziemlich gut. Vorallem der männliche.

2. Achtung spoiler:


Spinnen und Frettchen sind ausgefalle Haustiere. Aber sie werden nicht in sexspiele mit einbezogen. Denn das war einer meiner ersten Gedanken als ich eine der Rezensionen auf audible gesehen habe.

Die Geschichte ist süß. Und hat mich auch des öfteren auch zum lachen gebracht. Ganz abgesehen vom genialen sex.

Eigentlich ziemlich geil

Helena Hunting is kind of a new author to me. I love "Felony Ever After", a book project she partook in a few years ago with other amazing writers. Also, a dear book-friend has recommended her books to me for years now - that, combined with all the great reviews for "Shacking Up" made me decide to give it a shot. Unfortunately, it wasn't for me. For the following 3 reasons: 1. I could not relate to the humor and witty banter. The only funny thing in this story was Francesca, the male MC's pet ferret. She was so stinkin' cute - but aside from her antics, nothing made me laugh or even chuckle. Sadly. 2. I had a hard time liking the female MC. Really, I hate hypocrites! She always wanted to be heard but never listened to others. She didn't want to be judged for choices she made, but judged others relentlessly. And a few other things. If she was a real life Person, I would avoid her at all costs... And 3. I don't particularly like the female narrator. She speaks with a timid voice, even the parts that would require a bit more enthusiasm, in my humble opinion. Teddy Hemilton is amazing, like always. Maybe the female narrators voice ultimately added up to me not being able to connect to the female lead, I can't say for sure (even if I have my suspicions).

So, all in all I rate "Shacking Up" with 3 Stars. Basically, just the male narrators amazing performance made me rate the book with 3 Stars. The story is a 2-star rating and the female narrator a 1,5 to 2 Stars. Sorry, but that's my truth!

Would I recommend the book? Well, yes. Maybe this was honestly a case of "it's me, not you". I at least see where the good reviews are coming from, there was definitely potential - it just wasn't for me.

Couldn't find the humor in it

Die Leseprobe enthält nur den männlichen Sprecher - man sollte sich aber unbedingt die weibliche Stimme in einer anderen Leseprobe anhören!

Habe ich nicht gemacht und es bereut. Ich fand sie furchtbar, weil sie bei jedem Satz alle Betonungen durchorgelt wie Töne in einem Mariah Carey Song.

Die männliche Hauptfigur hat eine Vogelspinne und ein Frettchen als Haustiere, mit denen ausgiebig geschmust wird. Natürlich Geschmackssache, aber wenn ich das vorher gewußt hätte, hätte ich das Buch nicht gekauft.

Dadurch habe ich das Buch nicht zuende gehört, aber die Handlung bis zur Hälfte ist dämlich - selbst für ein Genre, in dem das nicht ungedingt im Vordergrund steht. Was die Geschlechtsteile der Protagonisten denken, interessiert mich eher weniger...
