The Trateri are about to learn a vital lesson of the Broken Lands. Deep in the remote expanse where anything can happen, it pays to be on a pathfinder's good side. After being mistaken as a Trateri scout during her escape, Shea finds herself forced to choose between the life she led and the possibilities of a new one. Her decision might mean the difference between life and death. For danger looms on the horizon, and a partnership with the Warlord may be the only thing preventing the destruction of everything she holds dear.

Mir hat das Buch überraschend gut gefallen, werde es weiter empfehlen. Die Charaktere sind vielseitig und ich mag die Welt in der sie Leben.

Wirklich gut

It is not said in which time the story is set, it could be in a far away future or in an alternative world. There are Highlands, Lowlands and Badlands with monsters and men who live very isolated in small villages. So they need so called pathfinders, special trained persons of a guild to lead travellers between these villages on safe ways. The story is about a female pathfinder, 25 years old, thin, beautiful, very fit and smart and named Shea. She got hunted by a war lord she fell in love with. She escaped him several times.

All in all a nice story to follow with a very good reader. Here are the main negative points, which stop me from continuing the series:

She disguised herself as a boy and nobody recognized her for a long time although actually everybody knew her as the most wanted person. That’s so unrealistic!
Although she is described as thin and small she is all muscles and very strong - this may be but it confuses me.
She fell in love with a war lord who claimed to own and love her. This should not be in a modern story about emancipated women! By that she became a negative rolemodel for me.
The sex scenes were described in every detail. I liked the scenes about fighting monsters much more.

Bin zufällig über dieses Buch gestolpert und nach wenigen Minuten war ich total gefesselt. Eine schöne Geschichte und spannend bis zum Ende.
Christa Lewis macht es leicht der Handlung zu folgen. Die Stimme ist sehr angenehm und die Aussprache gut verständlich.

I really enjoyed listening to it. the story was original enough at lets your imagination paint pictures of another land.

I really liked it! The narration is wonderfully done and definitely worth your time and the story is engaging. Shea is an interesting main character and I’m excited to see where the series is going.

Ich war wirklich begeistert. Eine Fantasygeschichte, die nicht nur durch die Liebesgeschichte interessant ist. Freue mich auf die Fortsetzung.

This book was super amazing highly exciting and I totally loved every bit from start to finish! I can only recommend it very highly!

Amazing Author and great Title

Rating this book is kind of tough. It did manage to peek and (kind of) keep my interest throughout most of the book. That is, until about 3 hours from the end, where it deteriorates into a badly written sex fantasy about male dominance. Even though, there were hints about this throughout the book, this still caught me off-guard. Sadly, this was the only time, the story surprised me in any way.

It doesn't help, that the characters a very shallow. They are stereotypical and don't have any depth. Most characters however have severe mood swings, like being super friendly in one chapter, only to become very hostile in the next, and then suddenly they are in love with the MC. The main character also changes her behavior quite rapidly.

The audio quality was slightly also only okay-ish. While the speaker tried to give different characters different voices, she did not manage to stay consistent. This is especially noticeable at the chapter boundaries, where the main character suddenly changes her voice and accent.

All in all, I think this is a decent story which had some potential, which constantly walks the line between interesting fantasy story and teenage romance novel. At least until it completely falls off the edge.
