Xander:
Being a career hotshot, a wildland firefighter, is all I've ever known. It's my greatest passion. This job is dangerous, and after watching my parents' marriage fail because of it, I knew long ago I'd never be a relationship kinda guy.
All of that changes when my best friend moves his recently widowed—and pregnant—younger sister and her two kids in next door. I've been crazy about Teddy for years. So when I happen to assist in an unexpected emergency home birth for her new baby, I find myself spending more and more time near her and her kids. Teddy's heart is locked up like Fort Knox after losing her husband, and breaking down her defenses is damn near impossible...but I want to show her that I'm here to stay. For all of them.
As superintendent, my duty to my crew has always been my priority. But with Teddy's heart on the line, can I give up the only life I've ever known? Or am I doomed to be honor bound and lose the only woman I've ever loved?
Narrated by Aiden Snow & Vanessa Edwin | Duet Style
Honor is the third heartfelt installment in the Sky Ridge Hotshots series, and Danielle Baker continues to deliver exactly what fans love—emotionally rich storytelling, mature characters, and a swoon-worthy romance without the unnecessary drama.
This is Xander and Teddy’s story—an emotionally charged, slow-burn romance between a widowed single mom and her brothers best friend. Teddy is a resilient woman doing her best to raise three kids on her own, while Xander, the 42-year-old career-driven Hotshot superintendent, has quietly loved her from afar for years. Now that they’re neighbors, he finally sees his chance—and watching him gently insert himself into Teddy’s and her children’s lives is heart-melting.
What I loved most? The maturity. There’s no petty miscommunication or unnecessary angst. Both Teddy and Xander are grown, emotionally intelligent, and incredibly respectful of each other. Xander’s devotion and patience are seriously swoon-worthy, and the fact that he’s older than the average romance hero? Total bonus. I also really appreciated how their love story didn’t overshadow the realities of parenting and grief, but rather blended naturally with them.
The duet narration by Aiden Snow and Vanessa Edwin adds so much intimacy and realism to the story. Their performances are perfectly paced and deeply emotive, making every moment feel authentic—from tender family scenes to the deliciously spicy ones (and yes, there’s a great amount of spice!).
The HEA is deeply satisfying, and the story wraps up in a way that leaves you smiling, hopeful, and eager for the next book in the series.
If you’re looking for a mature, low-drama, high-heart romance with a single mom, found family vibes, and a hot firefighter who falls hard, Honor is a must-listen.
a mature, low-drama, high-heart romance with excellent narration
