I loved this book. The story, the narrations, everything is so captivating. The thriller/horror parts were so in place, nothing over the top, trying to make to story scarier than it is. Just the right amount of thrill and drama. Definitely would recommend.

While the story itself was captivating, I found the redundant speech of the female protagonist very annoying. The same sentences in slight variations again and again and again: It’s all lies. He lied to me. It’s BS. It’s not true.

Lights off, lights on....better lights on 😅. That's how I listened (..at night!) to the Audiobook of HOME BEFORE DARK. This is my first read/listen of the author, Riley Sager 's work. And I must say I was overwhelmingly surprised.
It's about a young woman, Maggie, who returns to the home her family owned Mansion (Baneberry Hall)—and fled—years previously, an experience that became the inspiration for her father’s bestselling book, House of Horrors. A NON-FICTION story detailing the horrifying paranormal experience her family experienced while living in this mansion. Maggie doesn't believe in ghosts and everything her father wrote about her childhood. So she set herself in a mission to prove it. She settles herself in the house. And the longer she stayed and dug deeper about the house and the past, she witnessed and experienced events unfold that defy logic. Maggie then begins to question what she believes or didn't believe her family's ordeal years prior.
I can't spill the beans further. This is not your typical "Amityville Horror" type of ghost story. It is weaved with Family mysteries, shocking discoveries and revelations. A masterfully plotted and non-stop thriller.
Great narration by Cady McClain and Jon Lindstrom which gave this spine-tingling story a higher level of suspense.
By all means, this is a MUST read and must listen audiobook.

Twists and turns, clever red-herrings. Could hardly put it down. I liked the alternating between the "ghost story" and the current tale. Would recommend to fans of psychological thrillers.

The story is catching and exciting until you get to the twist of it. I was looking forward to a paranormal/haunted house novel but towards the end of the book I experienced a huge disappointment. It was obviously the writers intent though, to fool you. So don’t expect what the title suggests. It’s not really a ghost story, not paranormal.
