    Inhaltsangabe

In this must-listen book for anyone striving to succeed, pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows parents, educators, students, and businesspeople - both seasoned and new - that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a focused persistence called "grit".

Why do some people succeed and others fail? Sharing new insights from her landmark research on grit, MacArthur "genius" Angela Duckworth explains why talent is hardly a guarantor of success. Rather, other factors can be even more crucial, such as identifying our passions and following through on our commitments.

Drawing on her own powerful story as the daughter of a scientist who frequently bemoaned her lack of smarts, Duckworth describes her winding path through teaching, business consulting, and neuroscience, which led to the hypothesis that what really drives success is not genius but a special blend of passion and long-term perseverance. As a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Duckworth created her own "character lab" and set out to test her theory.

Here, she takes listeners into the field to visit teachers working in some of the toughest schools, cadets struggling through their first days at West Point, and young finalists in the National Spelling Bee. She also mines fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in peak performance. Finally, she shares what she's learned from interviewing dozens of high achievers - from J.P. Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon to the cartoon editor of The New Yorker to Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

Winningly personal, insightful, and even life changing, Grit is a book about what goes through your head when you fall down and how that - not talent or luck - makes all the difference.

    Kritikerstimmen

"Psychologist Angela Duckworth's winning performance is a nice blend of confidence in her scientific findings and humility about her personal and professional journey. Her accessible writing and speaking charm help her research on character reveal much about why people with the same abilities get vastly different results." ( AudioFile)

Getting to know a whole different perspective!

The book was pretty good and I really enjoyed it! You get to know another perspective on so many topics and 'hard work' becomes refined. Before listening to Grid, I had a vague imagination about giving your best, after reading I have a clear vision of what it really meants. Therefore I recommend this if you are a student or if you don't know how exactly you think about hard work. You also learn to distinguish people who just talk and people who are giving their best - but in a good way!

    Dear Mrs.Duckworth

Your book came to me at a point of time in my life . Where I was stumbling to get back on to my feet after a major fall professionally. I was before I read your book in what I would describe a dark abyss defeated and with a lack of girt to power through.Your book gave be hope when I had non . And the introspection to find the strength in me to fight through. To rise back up ” fall seven, rise eight “
Your book for that lack of better words was a god send .
This book is a fantastic read and I encourage everyone tp read/hear it and do so slowly.

    Packed with understandable research

A great book! Very well written, packed with research and personal anecdotes. I was often made to stop and reflect on my own practices and behaviors as I read.
This book is for anyone who is interested in learning how to learn, teenagers, researchers, educators, parents. Actually I’d say especially parents, because they are at the root of where you can instill a gritty attitude towards life as they raise their children. As a parent myself, I now know there are a few things I could’ve done better, but no regrets! I have great kids and there is no expiry date on teaching or acquiring grit!

Grit, an often underestimated virtue explained

This book gives a very good overview of what grit is and what it does with respect to the achievement of goals. For the Patent as welll as for the Sportsmann or manager, what Angela Duckworth explains is important for having a more successful Life.

    Thank you so much Angela

.. For taking us out for a coffee to share your accumulated knowledge in regards to GRIT! This audiobook has for sure finally changed my perception of the world around me. As a child I often have been attributed as being specially talented which for a long time I have been unable to see since I saw the hidden possibilities in everyone around me except they were unable to see those themselves... Later I started to adapt this notion of beeing talented/gifted which felt good but actually was bad for me since I fell for the wrong belief that I do not have to work for anything to achieve - and I didn't. It took years to realise that this is wrong and that indeed I have to work as anyone else to be achiever else I will permanently underachieve with no reason for... I am not gritty as of now, since I love starting new projects and eventually finish them but find it hard to focus myself on one thing - one top level goal which is above the other - thank you for all your clarifications on this matter!

TL;DR: buy it, worth it, if you let it be what it is and soak it in, reflect on it and then put the gained wisdom into action it might be life changing - at least it will show you a possible way to achieve more satisfaction and ultimately happiness in your life! =)
