If you’ve read the first three novels and then you are probably hooked anyway. Herbert makes a big leap with this novel since the story continues 3500 years in the future. It sounds a lot for a narrative to stay consistent, but it works. Just. As in all of his books, we have heaps of monologue and in comparison to the last book, even more cryptic messages by Leto II. I enjoyed reading and experiencing the mystique of Dune/Arakis. It was however a bit unhappy that no new ideas or explanation were introduced to the story either then Leto’s vision which already has been mentioned in the third book. Still. 5 out of five stars. Enjoy!

Must read classic!

I can’t count, how many times I have already read this novel, and I keep on finding new things. This audio book is amazing, the narrator does a fantastic job, capturing the spirit of the characters. Quite possibly the greatest „Dune“ book, the pinnacle.

I love the writing style. I love the air of mystery and epic proportion with which this book is written. I dislike the blatant pseudoscience homophobia and other weird conceptions of female sexuality. it has a conservative bent of necessity… anyway it was pretty good, pretty awe inspiring and one of the best in the dune sage. The defining concept to me still is the role of ecology in these books, beautiful & unique & rich

He should have included at least some action in the first half of the book - before I gave up listening to it. It only worked as a lullaby for me!
