Über diesen Titel

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Forever and a Day by Anthony Horowitz, read by Matthew Goode.

A spy is dead. A legend is born. This is how it all began. The explosive prequel to Casino Royale, from bestselling author Anthony Horowitz.

M laid down his pipe and stared at it tetchily. 'We have no choice. We’re just going to bring forward this other chap you’ve been preparing. But you didn’t tell me his name.'

'It’s Bond, sir,' the Chief of Staff replied. 'James Bond.'

The sea keeps its secrets. But not this time.

One body. Three bullets. 007 floats in the waters of Marseille, killed by an unknown hand.

It’s time for a new agent to step up. Time for a new weapon in the war against organised crime.

It’s time for James Bond to earn his licence to kill.

This is the story of the birth of a legend, in the brutal underworld of the French Riviera.

Kritikerstimmen

The super spy is back, with a fresh injection from novelist and screenwriter extraordinaire, Anthony Horowitz. The expert in suspense takes us back to the beginning of James Bond’s story… the story rips along with plenty of familiar Bond staples: evil villains, fast cars and women falling for young Bond’s charms. Ian Fleming would be proud.
Horowitz is a worthy successor to Ian Fleming, putting 007 back in his true domain… This New Bond is up there with the better Old Bonds… The denouement is a very fine piece of action writing… Horowitz has done splendidly.
Straight away Horowitz is able to capture Fleming’s flowing style and intricate details from how Bond likes his eggs in the morning to the cars he drives... He’s just as faithfully suave as in the original novels.
A novel that feels very like a filmfast-paced, skilfully writtenleaves you wanting more, and for serious Bond junkies [it] is the next fix in a long tale of addiction.
Even better than Trigger Mortisit is tremendous fun. Anthony Horowitz has the discipline and skill of a first-class action writer.
Exciting high drama… Horowitz stays loyal to the fabulous Fleming formula. And for that he surely deserves another mission guiding the fortunes of the world’s favourite superspy.
[Horowitz's Bond] is once again in safe hands, not departing much from Fleming’s entertaining formula... Horowitz’s light touch and smooth plotting create something close to the ideal holiday read.
Anthony Horowitz writes Bond in the style of Fleming... Total brain candy in the best possible fashion. (Rick O'Shea)
Anthony Horowitz's second James Bond book will keep 007 obsessives happy with martinis, beautiful women and an enormously fat Corsican gangster.
Horowitz shows that he knows the Fleming books backwards, offering plot twists that are homages to the master's novels. This nicely imagined book... is an amusing and thought-provoking addition to the post-Fleming bond canon.

I was really enjoying a backstory to the man James Bond as well as the case he works. The story is very fluently, colorfully written so that I had the feeling of being at the places and with the people. Mr. Horowitz laid down a great plot and the speaker Mr. Goode has performed brilliantly. I had no trouble distinguishing the different characters as he gives all of them a special flair with his voice - beautifully done.
If I could, I would insert an applauding Emoji!

My first James Bond Novel

I liked it a lot. Not too action heavy but still not boring. An amateur Bond with hints here and there where he got his habits from... not my favorite narrator tho.

very Flemmingish

I remember reading Ian Fleming’s James Bond book during some summer holidays abroad. I found one in the hotel lobby and was surprised how different it was from the movies. I had expected something gripping but shallow, a playboy super-agent without a heart. But the original James Bond is much more complex. He is deeply in love with the women in his life and if there is more than one it is only because they keep getting killed. I have never been interested in golfing or poker or roulette but the way in which Fleming wrote about that left me glued to the page.
So it was quite a challenge to match that author, to capture the style, the characterization, a plot, which needs to be typical and original at the same time. Antony Horowitz was commissioned by the Fleming Estate to write new James Bond books using material left by Ian Fleming. He was definitely a perfect choice. He had already published Trigger Mortis and Forever and a Day is the second addition to the Bond series.
But Forever and a Day is not only another James Bond adventure. Chronologically it is the first one as it shows him at the very point of his career, when he receives his license to kill and becomes 007. I finally found out what M stands for. And why he drinks his Martini shaken not stirred. And even bits about his childhood. I am not surprised that Antony Horowitz did such an excellent job with James Bond. I think he and Fleming have things in common. They both love a challenge, especially in uncharted waters.
No matter if you are a fan of James Bond or simply love thrilling, well-written crime fiction, I am sure you will enjoy this story, which on top of everything else is very well interpreted by Matthew Goode as reader of the audiobook.

The ultimate treat for James Bond fans

Matthew Goode does a fabulous job of voicing Bond. He IS Bond, in my opinion. I spent quite some time trying to find other installments narrated by him, but alas, this seems to be the only one. The story comes together nicely as well. There were some twists that I truly did not see coming. I wish there were more installments, as I would have loved to see where Horowitz would have taken the character.

Perfect prequel

A great light read.
Classic James Bond story with beautiful women, lovely scenery, evil villains, a few plot twists and a gripping finale. Best of all the wry British humour. The narrator was outstanding , moving between accents and characters in a convincing manner.
It was like hearing the movie in my head, the vivid descriptions creating the images accurately in my mind.

Highly enjoyable!
