Leider habe ich das Buch abgebrochen, vielleicht werde ich es srlbst fertig lesen, aber das Hörbuch ist einfach nicht auszuhalten.

Während die Passagen die von den männlichen Sprechern gelesen werden toll sind und die Geschichte an sich sehr vielversprechend wirkt, sind die Kapitel die von der weiblichen Sprecherin gelesen werden nicht auszuhalten.

Nicht dass sie nicht klar und deutlich ließt oder ihren Job nicht gut macht. Das ist es nicht. ich finde nur, dass ihre Stimme nicht zum Charakter von Annie passt. Sie klingt wie ein Kind und das ist einfach nicht stimmig.

Honestly, I’ve been looking for a story like this for a long time. I’ve yet to listen to the second and third books but I’m blown away by the first one. Intriguing characters that act like people with flaws and misconceptions, yes, but, and most importantly, the capacity for empathy and change. And they act according their age (and the world they’ve grown up in) without annoying adult readers. The world building ist done nicely and I enjoy following both Annie’s and Lee’s POVs as well as the occasional omniscient narrator who gives vital and interesting information at the right points in the story. I very much hope the series continues with what it does well. Definitely recommended to fans of dragons, suspense, complex decisions and the occasional sprinkle of romance and what it feels like to be a teenager in a world that requires you to grow up at a very, very young age.

I found the story a rather slow, although the character building was quite good. Some of the exciting scenes were captivating, though much of the story line left me debating, whether to stop with the audio book, which I would have done, had I not paid for it. The male voices were good, especially the narrator. The actress reading Annie has a child-like voice, which one gets used to, though her reading lack emotional nuancing, which became annoying, as battle scenes, love scenes and dailing routines were read in much the same way.
