Über diesen Titel
One chance meeting on a Texas ranch. One wild, too-charming cowboy. One snowed-in night that changes everything.
Wheeler Rankin isn't here for romance—she's come to Lucky River Ranch to visit her best friend, wrangle a business deal, and prove herself to everyone who ever doubted her. But when she collides with Duke Rivers—resident heartbreaker, restless cowboy, and brother to her best friend's new flame—sparks fly hotter than a Texas summer.
Duke has always dreamed of more than dusty trails and small-town life. He's itching to see the world, but one unforgettable night with Wheeler changes his course. When a blizzard and a business road trip leave them stranded together, their no-strings flirtation ignites into something deeper.
But passion brings complications—and unexpected news threatens to upend everything Wheeler's built. As family pressures, old wounds, and new dreams collide, Duke is determined to stand by her side, ready to forge a future neither of them ever imagined.
Can two fiercely independent souls trust in love, face their fears, and find home in each other's arms? Or will the ghosts of the past keep them apart for good?
Welcome back to Hartsville, where family is found, love is hard-won, and every cowboy has a story worth telling.
Duke is a standalone romance in the interconnected Lucky River Ranch Series.

First the narration—wow.
If Stephen Dexter narrates, I listen. Period. I love how distinct each of his performances is throughout the series, but his playful, goofy take on our sexy cowboy Duke might be my favorite. I only wish he’d had more chapters, because Lila Winters also absolutely delivered as Wheeler. Together, they made this such an enjoyable listen.
The story is tender, sweet, heartfelt, deep layered and genuinely funny, with some of my favorite tropes: surprise pregnancy, snowed-in, found family, slow burn, banter, all wrapped in a beautiful western small-town backdrop. The River brothers are each so hot and so different, but Duke is easily my favorite so far. He’s a cinnamon-roll, golden-retriever-energy, goofy, kindhearted, protective, glasses-wearing hot cowboy—a total ray of sunshine. Honestly, I wish he were real.
He balances Wheeler so beautifully. She’s dealing with complicated family dynamics and deep insecurities, and I rooted for both of them from the very beginning. One thing I really appreciate in Jessica Peterson’s writing—aside from her humor and emotional clarity—is how she handled the pregnancy storyline. This was the first time I’ve read a romance where the characters genuinely explore all the possible decisions around an unexpected pregnancy. It wasn’t the usual “of course we’re keeping it” narrative. Instead, it showed how people truly struggle when timing and circumstances aren’t ideal. It made both characters feel incredibly real and relatable.
