"Devil's Cub" by Georgette Heyer deals mainly with Dominic Alastair, the reckless and spoiled Marquis of Vidal, and Mary Challoner, who tries to protect her naive sister from his advancements. What was first meant as a rescue of her sister quickly turns into Mary developing romantic feelings for the Marquis herself.

Georgette Heyer's novel was published in 1932, when role models were very different from today and society's expectations of traditional behaviour by men and women. Lord Vidal, who is a reckless character without obvious morals, wouldn't be seen as a hero nowadays, as times have changed and political correctness is very expected today. Nevertheless, one must take this novel as it is: a piece of fiction that's fun to read. It's not only about reading a love story, but also about enjoying spending time with a story with a good plot, dialogues full of wit, irony and intelligence, and well-developed characters.
