The Sequel to Cop Out

Detective Ivan Bekker has hit rock bottom. Not only is he recovering from a bad breakup with a cheating boyfriend, he's also involved in a drug bust gone bad. Ivan had to kill a man, and his friend was shot and is now fighting for his life. Though Ivan is under investigation for his part in the shooting, his boss sends him on an off-the-books undercover operation to close the case. The timing is critical - this could be their chance to plug a leak in the department.

Off-balance and without backup, Ivan finds himself playing a recent divorce and becoming Parker Wakefield's roommate. He finds it hard to believe that sweet Parker could possibly be a criminal, much less have ties to a Russian mafia drug-trafficking operation, and Ivan lets down his guard. His affection is unprofessional, but Parker is irresistible.

When Ivan comes across clear evidence of Parker's criminal involvement, he has to choose: protect their relationship, regardless of the consequences, or save his career and arrest the man he loves.

Review on "Cover Up - Toronto Tales 02" by KC Burn

With his cloths still dirty and bloody from taking down a dangerous criminal, his boss pushes Detective Ivan Bekker into an off-the-books undercover mission. But Parker Wakefield is no drug selling criminal working for the Russian mob. The young student is a kind, lonely and caring man, totally oblivious to the real world. Ivan is instantly attracted to him and playing his role as the freshly devorced heterosexuelle man renting a room from Parker becomes harder with every single day. Who is lying in this case? Can Ivan rescue Parker and solve the case and also save his heart?

This is a coequal continuation of the Toronto-Tales series of KC Burn. Ivan had just a short appearence in book 01, but he had made me curious. The emotional ups and downs are not as steep this time but Ivan being stuck between all chairs grabed me and made me listen to this story without a stop. He and Parker may be opposites in many ways, but the mutual attraction between them has been so palpable. This time the POV swings between the two MC s so Parker may be naive to see what´s going on, but we readers/listeners and Ivan are on the right trail to untangle this case. I loved meeting my favourite characters Kurt,Davy and Simon again and that the crime story really picked up speed towards the end adding some totally unexpeted twists and turns!

Again Tristan James has done a brilliant job lending his voice to Ivan and Parker. He interpeted Ivan feeling off balance, alone and sliding slowly but unstopably into a full blown PTSD so vividly that I urgently whished for good friends to step in and help Ivan. At the same time I wanted to grab sweet, oblivious Parker by his shoulders and shake some reality sense into him. Parker does get under Ivan´s skin, and Ivan wants to do everything possible to protect Parker, even if this will cost him his job and the man he has deeply fallen in love for. Phew, the end let me breath again and smile, and it made me curious about Rick and Ian´s story next!
