For years, when I fell asleep, I dreamed of a man with blazing green eyes and a cruel smile. The day I meet him, the ruthless mercenary leaves me for dead.
Just hours after humans are born, the gods take what little power we have. In return, they protect our borders from the vicious, merciless fae.
The humans who manage to keep their power are known as the corrupt. And they are burned.
When my forbidden power is discovered, I’m forced to flee my tiny village and the life I adore. To survive, I make a desperate bargain with the mercenary who abandoned me at my weakest moment.
Our deal is simple: I’ll help him and his mysterious friends sneak into the city, and he’ll help me learn to wield the strange, dark power I’ve always kept hidden—the power that may just be the key to my survival.
But the ruthless mercenary is hiding secrets of his own, secrets that threaten the safety of everyone I love, that could tear this kingdom—and perhaps even this world—apart.
Please note: A Court This Cruel and Lovely is an NA/adult romantasy book with steam. While this series is slow burn, the chili-pepper rating will increase for each book.

The world, the story, the plot, the writing, the romance, plot twists and character growth.
I would also like to mention the narrators, they did a great job.
Loved it!

The story was thrilling, the plot was fast pacing.
I loved every step of the FMCs journey, how the character was developed and how she finally got into her strenght and power. She started out as a shy and naive girl and turned into a powerful, ruthless and cunning woman who trust herself and knows exactly what she wants and what she is able to do.
The romance between her and the MMC was (in my opinion) a real enemies-to-lovers, they really couldn't stand each other at the beginning and the banter was very funny. In the end I couldn't quite grasp their relationship because the MMC was ambivalent and closed up. I can't say I know much about him after finishing this book...but well, this was part of the huge plot twist in the end.
I will definitely continue with this series. Not just because the story was amazing but also because the narration was perfect. I loved the female voice. She could bring up all the emotions perfectly and made listening to this audiobook even more exciting.
Amazing!! I couldn't stop listening
