The highly anticipated sequel to the SUNDAY TIMES bestselling EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE 'Bloody brilliant'
V.E. Schwab ‘A ripping read’
Joe Abercrombie

Gabriel de León has saved the Holy Grail from death, but his chance to end the endless night is lost.

After turning his back on his silversaint brothers once and for all, Gabriel and the Grail set out to learn the truth of how Daysdeath might finally be undone.

But the last silversaint faces peril, within and without. Pursued by children of the Forever King, drawn into wars and webs centuries in the weaving, and ravaged by his own rising bloodlust, Gabriel may not survive to see the truth of the Grail revealed.

A truth that may be too awful for any to imagine.

Includes a bonus conversation between Jay Kristoff and actor/director Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Halo).

Opinie krytyków

‘If you were bitten by Empire Of The Vampire, you’ll know what to expect; if not, here’s another beautifully constructed, epic maelstrom of high-stakes gore and adventure… Awesome.’ Daily Mail

Praise for EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE

‘A ripping read – dark as black coffee and savage as a slit throat’

Joe Abercrombie, bestselling author of the First Law trilogy

‘A gothic bloodbath that will leave any reader breathless. The story is a vast apocalyptic canvas, reminiscent of Justin Cronin’s THE PASSAGE or even Stephen King’s THE STAND, yet Kristoff’s work stands on its own ruthless merit as the opening gambit of a richer tale yet to unfold. I can’t wait to return again to this rich, lush, and bloody world. Until then, read this book now!’

James Rollins, no.1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE LAST ODYSSEY and THE STARLESS CROWN

‘A wonderfully crafted tale, the pieces as meticulously interlocked as fine woodwork. A chilling new take on vampire lore and those who must battle that darkness. EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE looks fearlessly at how ruthless Good must become when confronted with unrelenting Evil’

Robin Hobb, SUNDAY TIMES and NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE ASSASSIN’S APPRENTICE

'Brilliant and unputdownable, with tenderness and light bound into the bitter dark of a grim and fascinating world'

Laini Taylor, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of STRANGE THE DREAMER

'This book is bloody brilliant'

V.E. Schwab, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE

Why would you have a different Voice actor with completely different pronounciatons and accents read the second half of the book? What a terrible experience For me as a Reader half way through the second book :(

Why oh why

Dennoch volle Empfehlung!

Atemberaubend und blutig

The story effortlessly lives up to the high standards set by part one. Great worldbuilding that draws you into the plot and doesn’t let go of you.

I sometimes like to listen audiobooks in order to find sleep but that's definitively impossible when listening to that gem! I tried but couldn't stop listening. Ever.. Incredible storyline and absolutely stunning speakers. Yes, I mean both of them. Yeah, I know.. Some listeners rated the female speaker badly and I admit - at first her style is in a certain need of getting used to. But soon I loved her voice as much as the male one's. And I could see Selene through her eyes. And I didn't miss Gabe's voice. So both of them 10 out of 10! Story too..

You won't regret that one! Promise!

Unbelievably fascinating

I adored every bloody, heartbreaking moment of this book! Phenomenal series! And Phenomenal narration of the audiobook. I also very much enjoyed the bonus Q&A with Joseph Morgan at the end of the book. 😍

Bloody brilliant!

THE SPEAKERS:

The Audio-Book is split into two parts. Both read by different speakers. The first is read by Damien Lynch, who, as in Empire of the Vampire, does a great job. The second by a woman (Shakira Shute) and her reading I find problematic.

The least problematic:
Her interpretation of the French accent from the vampires sounds like someone from India speaking French. It’s a little ridiculous, but not too disturbing.

A little bit more problematic:
The English characters are read in a heavy Irish accent. And while it's generally sympathetic. It's a big change feeling the character when the same person in the book is not only read by a woman suddenly, but with a different accent.
And it's way too heavy. 20% less would have been great.

The most problematic:
The female reader tends to swing off into a melodic, worrisome sounding Sing Sang. Good for a small introduction, but not for long bits of text. It gets super tedious! I can't listen to this voice for more than 1/2 an hour.

THE STORY:

It is pretty straight forward from battle to battle. No ingenious plot twists, no big reveals. It's a little like a computer game. Dior and the Silversaint meet a mean vampire and after that yet another super ancient and more powerful Vampire and short after that another even more ancient and more powerful comes along and so on. With the descriptions of gore and horror, Kristoff has, at least for me, expended his gunpowder all little. Also not my favorite: Dead characters get revived, which makes their deaths less bitter, but also meaningless. I like Kristoffs work, so I'll give it a 3,5 stars. But it ain't that great.
