Greg Wise reads Pierre Boulle's chilling, iconic novel about a nightmare world where apes rule over men. In a spaceship that can travel at the speed of light, Ulysse, a journalist, sets off from Earth for the nearest solar system. He finds there a planet which resembles his own, except that on Soror humans behave like animals and are hunted by a civilised race of primates. Captured and sent to a research facility, Ulysse must convince the apes of their mutual origins. But such revelations have always been greeted by prejudice and fear...

The inspiration for several acclaimed cult films, Planet of the Apes is both a gripping, disturbing fable and a classic of science fiction.

Just binged the new Apes trilogy and went back to the 60s film and downloaded this out of curiosity. A bit different but veey interesting. Great performance by Greg wise too. I listened to this in just a couple of days, normally it takes me much longer because I lose interest.

Even better than the movie

Just wonderful and clever! Loved every second! Especially the end really took me by surprise

I'd never read (or heard) this before, but I'm a huge fan of the movies (even the '70's sequels, Tim Burton reimagining and recent remakes).
I was excited to discover this version on Audible, but ultimately disappointed. Sadly, I found Greg Wise's reading to be quite lethargic and his 'American' accent pretty poor. I'd have much preferred someone like Dan Stevens, Michael Sheen or even Wil Wheaton give it a try...
It remains a great story though, and is worth discovering as a comparisson and companion piece to the Ape saga than most people know.

Classic story/poor reading.
