Who needs a Class when you're already the strongest anyways?
Ten years ago, Amelia woke up alone and lost in a broken world where she had to fight for her survival.
Now, after reaching the pinnacle of power, defeating the Void itself, and escaping the abyss, she has finally found her way back into the real world.
But instead of returning to Earth, she arrives in the land of Vacuos. A fantasy world with magic, monsters, Classes, and Levels. A world that is governed by a System like it were a video game.
When rewarded with a Class befitting her accomplishments—to become a powerful [Hero] that will forever dedicate her life to protecting this world that is not her own—she only has one response: “Absolutely not. I’m going to live a normal life now, thank you very much.”

©2023 V.A. Lewis (P)2023 Podium Audio😁 ok, fine, it's more complex than that. especially all the interactions with her apprentice Noelle. There's rarely a chapter that doesn't make you laugh out loud.
It's truly a unique story with an MC that doesn't take herself too seriously. Coupled with an excellent narrator (Mare Travethan is in my personal Top 5) you should absolutely check it out. 💯
So, in short ...

Characters, the MC first and foremost, rarely act like actual people but more imortantly; the MC suffers from a severe lack of drive. She's a One Punch Plank. There is no goal, no plan, no ambition to achieve anything.
She's the absolute embodiment if the "This is fine" meme. All she "wants" is a peaceful life and not be a hero yet she clearly enjoys being the hero, however big or small and is utterly miserable when doing anything ordinary and peaceful. It's clear from the very beginnig that the MC doesn't have the temperament or inclination to settle down and the author simply spends too much time driving the plot down tangents with absolutely zero payoff. At the end the MC has undergone zero personal growth. What little growing is done happens only to some of the side characters.
On top of that she is a thoroughly unlikeable ass outside of the rare moments she decides to be the hero. I think the author went for snarky heroine, completely overshot, landed at flippantly dismissive brat and also failed at giving her any truly redeeming traits.
There is only so long one can stand watching a supposedly grown woman run from the most simple and fundamental responsibilities of life.
It's infuriarting because occasionally the MC does show hints of what she could be.
Sadly matters only seem to grow worse in the second novel of the series. After managing to do zero progress on dealing with her emotional hangups in the first book the MC somehow managed to regress which, I suppose, is an impressive feat in its own right.
Decently entertaining...

To sum it up most of the struggles are lived through by side characters because the only trouble Amelia faces is to get a class which is for the most part just a side note. On top of that the story is rather generic as in "Big evil puppets lesser evils to do evil things". Maybe the story will get more interesting in the next book.
The characters feel bland and not that diverse. The MC is uncaring and feels like a middle school teenage girl to me.
Moreover the side-characters are most of the time more important then our MC. There is the "Noble Spellsword" which is you guessed it a self-sacrificing girl which wants to get stronger to avenge her dead sister. All the other characters are similar and like i said feel rather bland.
The narrator performance and quality was good nothing more to add.
All in all there are worse books out there but also better ones, this feels rather bland and boring at times but is good for some laughs here and there, listen to it if you got nothing else to listen to but only except a decent book.
Anime the book

The VA is good and knows what she is doing but somehow her intonation and emotional range fluctuates wildly, even in the same sentence and same character. You get used to it but it's a little annoying.
One swing girl

the MC is female and didn't lose her hair
and its fantasy adventurers instead of heros.
Geno is a female adventurer, that uses the system which our MC doesn't. Only few people know our MC is overpowered and she can't even get a job as adventurer because she has no class and is lv 0.
Now why worse? OPM is pretty good isn't it? Wll its partially the nature of the medium I think, you get more into "not Saitamas" head which highlights how dense they need to be for this plot to work. The side characters also don't really develop much. And so you are just ... listening to a knock off one punch man without the visual spectacle and without interesting character dynamics.
I will be honest I "only" listened to it for 4-5h.
So things might improve but ... I doubt it.
One Punch Man but worse
