Many characters but it guarantees multiple listen throughs. The story is very nice and nuanced.

I loved him in book 1 and now he continues delivering an almost flawless performance in book 2. I've watched the show, I know how the story goes and honestly, if it wasn't for Roy Dotrice, i wouldn't keep buying the rest of the books. He is incredible. One of my favorites right up there with Rosamund Pike, Michael Page, Steven Pacey and Jefferson Mays.

I specifically bought the 2015 edition of this audiobook, hoping that the narrator had a better grasp on the story, but somehow the opposite happened. Roy Dotrice's narration feels less grandfatherly than in book 1 (from way back then), but the silly accents got worse and Davos is downright unbearable. Narrator and story are a mismatch and there seem to be no alternatives; there are several versions of The Hedge Knight, for instance, and I would have loved for the fabulous Frank Muller to read the main series for us.
