At times a bit repetitive but otherwise an excellent book. Clark works hard to explain complexity and how it makes it hard to analyse the outbreak of WW1 even after 100 years.

He also does a great job to search for the mindset of the actors explaining each time that they had to act without the hindsight those who research them now have.

Good to recall the time around 1914 and all the developments leading to this critical summer of this very year. But also a lot of details, sometimes hard to follow, a lot of background. You have to love history and already bring quite some knowledge with you to absorb all the facts. Still, a good spotlight on this time and to reflect on lessons learnt for today.
