There are a few instances where the escalation steps -in my opinion- do not make sense, mostly in regards to the Russian reaction. But all else is logical step by step buildup.

The author has based her narrative on countless detailed interviews and years of research, as she never gets tired of reminding the reader. It is clear that stressing the origin of the assumptions in the book is necessary at times since otherwise they would seem too fantastical and unrealistic. The writing style, however, makes this read like an accountant's version of an ancient apocalypse story. Combined with a reading style so mechanical, the late Steven Hawking would have spoken livelier, it makes the audiobook an interesting, sometimes fascinating, but quite tedious experience.

- the narrator is kinda slow (had to rilun it at 1.2x) and monotone, almost like a text-to-speech software
- in many sections it is a bit repetitive where details or phrases are repeated multiple times within a few minutes.
- this also applies to lists etc. That come up multiple times, there a less verbatim reproduction would have helped a lot

Keine Fiktion, das ist die Realität in der wir leben. Und am schlimmsten ist, dass es keinen realistischen Ausweg gibt, solange es Diktatoren wie Putin, die iranischen Ayatollah’s und komplett irre wie Nord Koreas Kim Jong Un gibt.
Und so postuliert das Buch einen Angriff Nordkoreas auf die USA. Denn rational gesehen sollte die Abschreckung funktionieren. Was aber, wenn ein Glied der Kette bricht und irrational handelt? Dann geht die Menschheit in nicht einmal einer Stunde global unter. Länger dauert der Atomkrieg nicht. Warum diese Logik unausweichlich ist, stellt das Buch mit fast unerträglicher Nüchternheit dar.
Stoff für Alpträume. Ich wünschte, ich hätte es nicht gelesen.
