Twenty years ago, monsters rose on earth and began a new age of civilization.

I’ve only been in the military for six months, but now I’m part of a unit tasked with trying to stop and capture him. And when I’m the only soldier out of hundreds that the Soul Eater leaves alive, I realise that something about me has intrigued him.

But what is it? What could a twenty-three-year-old guy from the south, with no one and nothing in the world, have possibly done to capture the attention of a death monster with horns, blackened fingertips and a face hidden in the dark depths of his hood?

Soul Eater is book one of Monstrous, a post-apocalyptic fantasy series featuring monsters and human men falling in love. It is a m/m love story and contains sexually explicit content and graphic depictions of torture and violence.

As you might have guessed from the title, I know and love the books. And now we got the cherry on top: Michel Lesley narrating. It took me a bit to get used to Danny’s accent, but seeing as he’s supposed to be from Louisiana, it fit him perfectly. Wyn’s voice on the other hand was… perfect. Excellent. That growl gives me all the best shivers 🥰 the story itself is a great introduction to a post apocalyptic world, a story you appreciate even more when you’re rereading it after reading the follow ups and realise how many Easter Eggs Lily Mayne already hid for us.

I am an huge fan of Lily Mayne. The almost post-apocalyptic Earth she describes in her books, the humans and monsters, who now live here, are so realistically detailed and the circumstances they all suffer are frighteningly imaginable.
This is the first book in the series and is dedicated to the admittedly rather lousy soldier Danny, who instead of killing the dreaded soul eater, gradually falls for his inhuman charms. (And other inhuman...parts)
I was skeptical as to how well a human could do the voice of Wyn, described as very distorted, but Michael Lesley has met that challenge seemingly effortlessly. All of the characters are uniquely and incredibly appropriately portrayed.

Es war sehr interessant, die Geschichte an sich und die Charaktere. Alle Bücher sind miteinander verbunden. hab innerhalb von paar Tagen alle durchgehört😅
Und der Sprecher hat es sehr gut gemacht.

I didn't come across the voice talent before, but I think he did a perfect job. The characters are great, and the story addresses some social issues (prejudice, etc.) that give it more depth than one might expect. Overall, I really enjoyed the audiobook. It's an exciting journey in which different worlds collide, with plenty of spice, as the two main characters are almost constantly horny ;).
