  • What I Discovered on My Fertility Journey
    Sep 8 2024

Welcome to today's episode of What We Tell Our Daughters. Coming to you from Koh Samui, Thailand this week! We're continuing on our fertility journey together this week - but instead of hormones and labs, we're talking about the mindset of fertility.

In Western Medicine & in Functional Medicine, we talk A LOT about physical root causes of infertility, labs, cycles, science, numbers... but we almost never talk about the emotional and spiritual journey that struggling with fertility brings. Today I'll share with you some of the biggest lessons I learned in my fertility journey and some gems that my mentors shared with me.

    -------

    Journaling Prompts:

    * Do I believe in a little baby spirit? If not, is there another form of energy, science, meaning this baby spirit could take that would align with my belief system?

    * How can I make more space for growth, evolution, trust, patience on this fertility journey?

    * If I don't believe in a spiritual connection or an unknown, how do I find peace with the things that feel beyond my control in this journey?

  • How Does Travel Affect the Gut Microbiome?
    Aug 25 2024

Welcome to today's episode of What We Tell Our Daughters. This week we are traveling from Madrid to Munich and then to Thailand! In these times of travel, we still do our best to maintain our healthy lifestyle practices, but we also let ourselves live and truly enjoy each place we go - including all the food and sweets!

This led me to ask the question, "just how much of an affect on our gut does short term dietary change have?" Whether you're going on a short vacation or a longer stent of travel, you'll want to listen to these findings!

I'll give you both short actionable tips for while you're traveling and how to reset your microbiome when you get back home.

  • How Alcohol Affects Your Hormones & Menstrual Cycle
    Aug 18 2024

Welcome to today's episode of What We Tell Our Daughters. Today's topic can be both eye-opening and triggering depending on your relationship with it.

We're discussing alcohol and it's effect on both your physical health (including menstrual cycle and hormone pathways) and mental/emotional health. Alcohol is rampant in our society, it's cultural, it's social, it's fun and it's detrimental to our health. However, there's always 2 sides to the coin so that's what we're going to discuss today!

Link to the study I reference in today’s episode: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5513689/

As always, you’re welcome to watch the video version on youtube instead:

  • How to Use and Understand Labs to Take Control Over Your Fertility
    Aug 11 2024

Welcome to today's episode of What We Tell Our Daughters. Today's topic is Fertility, or more specifically, Fertility Labs.

I have seen time and time again as Western Medicine overlooks underlying root causes of fertility and pushes women quickly to fertility clinics where they pay tens of thousands of dollars and never receive a true root cause analysis. While I believe there is value in IVF and fertility treatment, I also believe it should never be a first resort.

There is so much we can do within functional medicine to discover imbalances and restore health and vitality to women to allow them to get pregnant naturally. In this episode, we're going to go over all the tests I believe are baseline tests for any woman who is working to get pregnant, wants to get pregnant in the next 5 years or just wants to live a long happy life.

  • What Drives Our Children's Behavior? Temperament or Environment?
    Jul 21 2024

Today, I'm here to share some insights I had around our daughter's behavior while we traveling for the last 6 weeks. We are not a fully nomadic family anymore (we have a home-base) but we still travel quite a lot and we try to really immerse ourselves in the experience of each place we go. What I thought was going to be a challenging trip, ended up being one of the smoothest and loveliest times we've had with our daughter! I'll share why in this episode.
