Thursday, May 21st: In Episode 774 of The Daily Grind, we continue The Gospel According to Ezekiel with Part 14, “The Sword Is Drawn,” from Ezekiel 21. Ezekiel delivers a dramatic warning that judgment is no longer a distant possibility but an approaching reality. The chapter centers around the image of a sharpened and flashing sword prepared for slaughter, symbolizing Babylon’s coming invasion against Jerusalem. God declares that He is now standing against His own people because of their persistent rebellion, corruption, and refusal to repent. Ezekiel physically groans and trembles before the people as a living picture of the fear and devastation that are coming. The chapter also reveals that behind the movements of nations and empires, God remains sovereign over history and kingdoms. Yet even in the middle of judgment, Ezekiel introduces a powerful thread of hope when he speaks of the crown being removed “until He comes whose right it is,” pointing forward to the coming Messiah and the true King. Christians see this fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the King whose kingdom cannot be shaken. Ezekiel 21 reminds us that false securities eventually collapse, but God’s kingdom alone endures forever.

Wednesday, May 20th: In Episode 773 of The Daily Grind, we continue The Gospel According to Ezekiel with Part 13, “A History of Rebellion and Mercy,” from Ezekiel 20. When the elders come seeking answers from God, Ezekiel instead confronts them with Israel’s long history of rebellion stretching all the way back to Egypt. Again and again, God rescued His people, revealed Himself to them, and showed mercy, yet the people continually drifted toward idolatry and disobedience. One phrase echoes throughout the chapter: “For the sake of My name.” God preserves His people not because of their consistent faithfulness, but because of His covenant mercy and commitment to His purposes. Ezekiel traces the repeated cycle through Egypt, the wilderness, and the Promised Land, revealing that Israel’s deepest problem was not merely external circumstances but the condition of the human heart. Even after judgment and exile become unavoidable, God still promises future restoration, cleansing, and renewed worship. The chapter ultimately points toward the need for transformed hearts and a faithful covenant keeper, which Christians see fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Ezekiel 20 reminds us that while human beings repeatedly fail, God’s mercy and faithfulness continue pursuing His people across generations.

Tuesday, May 19th: In Episode 772 of The Daily Grind, we continue The Gospel According to Ezekiel with Part 12, “A Lament for the Lions,” from Ezekiel 19. Ezekiel sings a funeral lament over the fallen kings of Judah, using the imagery of fierce lions captured and carried away to Egypt and Babylon. What once appeared strong, powerful, and secure has collapsed under the weight of rebellion and failed leadership. The chapter then shifts to the image of a flourishing vine that is violently uprooted and replanted in a dry wilderness, symbolizing exile, loss, and the unraveling of the kingdom. Ezekiel reminds us that leadership matters because leaders shape nations, communities, and generations for good or for destruction. Yet beneath the grief of this chapter lies a deeper tension: the apparent collapse of the royal line of David. What looks like the death of God’s promises eventually points forward to Jesus, the true Lion from the tribe of Judah, whose kingdom cannot be destroyed. Ezekiel 19 teaches us not to place ultimate hope in earthly rulers or human systems because all human kingdoms eventually fade. At the same time, the chapter gives space for honest lament, reminding us that grief and faith can exist together. Even in exile and loss, God is not finished with His people or with the story He is writing.
