Friday, May 15th: In Episode 770 of The Daily Grind, we continue The Gospel According to Ezekiel with Part 10, “Two Eagles and a Vine,” from Ezekiel 17. Ezekiel uses the imagery of eagles, vines, and cedar trees to tell a prophetic story about Judah’s misplaced trust in political alliances instead of God. The first eagle represents Babylon, while the second represents Egypt, and the vine symbolizes Judah under King Zedekiah. Rather than remaining faithful, Judah reached toward Egypt for security and rescue, revealing a deeper issue of covenant unfaithfulness and spiritual rebellion. Ezekiel reminds us that outward collapse always traces back to inward drift and that misplaced trust eventually withers. Yet the chapter shifts dramatically toward hope when God promises that He Himself will plant a tender sprig that will grow into a mighty cedar tree where many will find shelter. Christians have long understood this as pointing toward the Messiah and the coming Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ. While human kingdoms rise and fall, God continues building an unshakable kingdom through what often appears small, weak, or overlooked. Ezekiel 17 ultimately challenges us to examine where we place our trust and reminds us that only God’s kingdom can carry the weight of our ultimate hope.

Thursday, May 14th: In Episode 769 of The Daily Grind, we continue The Gospel According to Ezekiel with Part 9, “The Unfaithful Bride,” from Ezekiel 16. God uses the painful imagery of marriage to describe His covenant relationship with Jerusalem and the heartbreak of His people turning away from Him. The chapter begins with a stunning picture of grace as God rescues Jerusalem like an abandoned infant left exposed in a field and lovingly raises her, clothes her, and enters into covenant with her. But the very blessings God gave eventually became idols, as the people trusted in beauty, success, security, and false gods instead of the One who rescued them. Ezekiel reveals how spiritual drift slowly hardened into full rebellion and how sin reshapes what feels normal over time. God declares that Jerusalem had become even more corrupt than Samaria and Sodom because greater privilege brings greater responsibility. Yet after exposing all their betrayal and failure, God makes an astonishing promise: He will remember His covenant and make atonement for His people. Christians see this pointing forward to Jesus, the Messiah who restores broken covenant relationship through mercy and sacrifice. Ezekiel 16 ultimately becomes a story of grace, betrayal, judgment, and relentless mercy, reminding us that even after deep failure, God still pursues broken people.

Wednesday, May 13th: In Episode 768 of The Daily Grind, we continue The Gospel According to Ezekiel with Part 8, “False Peace and Empty Confidence,” from Ezekiel 11. Ezekiel is brought to the east gate of the temple where he encounters leaders confidently telling the people that Jerusalem is secure and judgment is not really coming. God exposes their false assurance and warns that outward religion and proximity to sacred things cannot replace genuine surrender to Him. The city they trusted to protect them would instead become the place where judgment overtook them. Yet in the middle of this heavy chapter comes one of the most hope-filled promises in Ezekiel: God promises to give His people a new heart and a new spirit. He will remove their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh, pointing toward a future transformation that Christians understand to be fulfilled through the Messiah and the Holy Spirit. Ezekiel’s vision stretches beyond exile and return to the deeper promise of restored hearts and restored relationship with God. The chapter closes with the glory of God fully departing from Jerusalem, showing that the greatest tragedy was never merely the fall of the city, but the loss of God’s presence among His people. Even so, God’s promise of renewal and restoration begins shining through the darkness.
