Thursday, September 24th: Hebrews 12:18–24 contrasts the fear and distance of Mount Sinai with the welcome and celebration of Mount Zion. Sinai revealed God’s holiness and humanity’s need for a mediator, while Zion shows what Jesus has accomplished by bringing us near to God. Through Christ, believers have come to the heavenly Jerusalem, the joyful gathering of God’s people, and the Judge who welcomes us because justice has been satisfied. Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant, and His blood speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. Where sin declares us guilty and shame tells us to stay away, the blood of Jesus announces forgiveness, reconciliation, and welcome. We approach God with reverence, but because of Jesus, we no longer have to remain at a distance.

Wednesday, September 22nd: Hebrews 12:12–17 calls weary believers to strengthen their tired hands, steady their weakened knees, and continue following Jesus. God’s discipline is intended to restore us, so we must make straight paths that lead toward healing rather than returning to the sins that keep tripping us. We are also commanded to pursue peace, holiness, and the grace of God while watching over one another. The warning about a root of bitterness reminds us that hidden unbelief and compromise can eventually harm an entire community. Esau’s story shows the danger of trading something lasting and valuable for the satisfaction of an immediate desire. When we are tired, wounded, or tempted to settle for less, Jesus calls us to take the next faithful step.

Tuesday, September 22nd: Hebrews 12:4–11 teaches us to view hardship through the love of our heavenly Father. God’s discipline is not evidence that He has rejected us but that He is committed to our growth as His children. Although not every painful experience is punishment for a particular sin, God can use every difficulty to strengthen our faith and form Christ’s character within us. His discipline may be painful in the moment, but His purpose is always loving and good. When we allow ourselves to be trained by it, it eventually produces the peaceful fruit of righteousness. God is not trying to crush us; He is shaping us into the people He created and redeemed us to become.

Monday, September 21st: Hebrews 12:1–3 calls us to move from admiring the heroes of faith to running the race ourselves. Surrounded by their testimony that God can be trusted, we must lay aside every sin that entangles us and every unnecessary weight that slows us down. The Christian life is not a short sprint but a long-distance race requiring steady endurance. We run the course God has placed before us—not someone else’s—by fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. Because He endured the cross, defeated death, and now sits at God’s right hand, we can keep going without growing weary or giving up.

Friday, September 18th: Hebrews 11:39–40 explains that the heroes of faith were commended by God even though they did not receive the completed promise during their lifetimes. Thursday, September 17th: Hebrews 11:32–38 shows that faith does not always produce the same visible outcome. Some conquered kingdoms and escaped danger; others remained faithful through imprisonment, suffering, and death. Tuesday, September 15th: Hebrews 11:23–29 shows Moses choosing identification with God’s people over the comfort, status, and wealth of Egypt. He trusted the invisible God, kept the Passover, and crossed the Red Sea by faith. The pleasures and treasures of this world are temporary, but Jesus is worth more.
