How does this have so many stars?

I don't usually write reviews, but I am making an exception for this book. It left me in a bad mood because I was annoyed with myself for even finishing it. There is no doubt in my mind about the author's expertise on the subject but the material was, in my opinion, very poorly presented.
I was not a fan of the narrator from the start. His intonation made every piece of information sound as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, but also extremely insightful and inspirational. It made the whole book sound like a cheap self-help book.
However I don't think that actually reading the book would have been much better. There are a lot of quotes. These quotes might look great on a powerpoint slide in front of a few office workers who are happy to have a few hours off. That is exactly what the whole book felt like - a well-rehearsed live presentation that was only slightly edited and put into book form.
The book is also very repetitive and the informational bits could probably be condensed to at most 20% of the book's actual length.
I am not blaming the author for the fact that I already knew every single technique that he describes, they seem to be pretty standard after all. Many years ago I read Derren Brown's "Tricks of the Mind" and he presented all these techniques in an interesting, engaging, humourous and memorable way without memorization even being the focus of the book.
If you have never heard of any tricks and shortcuts to remembering things more easily, this book may contain some eye-opening wisdom for you. If you have, chances are that you will find this book just as boring as I did. There are certainly better ways to spend half an Audible credit.

    Straight to the point

The book is a great introduction to memory and gives you lots of options to choose what works best for you. Excellently done, no unnecessary repetition to add pages and no redundant information.
