As Ivy and Druid bond over their unhappy pasts, Ivy learns that her new friend was also abandoned by his family thanks to his "useless" skill. I love the story and love hearing about Ivys journey and I love the story so far. But major Spoiler warning!
The chapters about or with Druids family tick me off. Because Druids mistreatment and possible abuse is just glossed over with a simple apology. Yes he didn’t forgive his brother right away but it was still way too easy. Especially the parts with his parents because they apologize for their lack of help and mistreatment and suddenly they are a happy family again. Completely dismissing the possible trauma Druid has and even Ivy for appearing so smart in other chapters is dismissing Druids feelings and mistreatment. She just does whatever she wants without considering him. The way she behaves when she is talking to one of his brothers doesn’t help either and why is Druid constantly apologizing for his brothers.

And don’t get me started on Shurila because she is suspicious as hell. She married Druids brother and then is treating him badly just because she knows he is an idiot and an asshole? Why did she even marry him then?

And from what I get from the chapter with Doluka about Druid and his brothers is that his brothers were never set straight by their parents or got confronted with consequences for their actions if they even mistreated their father. His mother is not even feeling remorseful about what happened and treats the over 20 years of no contact as nothing big. And from the context of everything it sounds like they didn’t even teach their children anything and didn’t even try with them after the star incident and let them become assholes/idiots.

I just want Druid to get angry at his family and I know he feels guilty about the star thing and is a „nice“ guy but this doesn’t negate the mistreatment and possible abuse! If they want to include such a background story for a character they should make it realistic and not resolve everything with a simple apology. He didn’t talk to them for 20 years because of how he was treated these feelings don’t just go away just because they were a long time ago.

I don’t know if this is because it’s originally a Japanese novel and was written with a different cultural background but the whole thing about Druids family is just making me angry. I even dreaded listening to the later chapters and I dread the continuation of the story with Druids family in the next volume.
I honestly can’t wait till this part of the story is finally over and they go on their journey again.

The first half was great the second half of the story gave me mixed feelings
