This must be the most boring Ruth rendell i I've ever read!! After the first few chapters I found I couldn't care less who the murderer was. Cutting the story by 50 percent might help

the book is a little on the nose and not as compelling as others in the genre or even in this series, it's not as bad as the previous ratings indicate though

I love this narrator but

I could not finish it. The narrator is dreadful. Especially her rendering of Wexford and Burdon. They sound like asphyxiated cats. Perhaps I will read the book.
