Über diesen Titel

The Murders at Fleat House is a suspenseful and utterly compelling crime novel from the author of the multimillion-selling The Seven Sisters series, Lucinda Riley.

The sudden death of a pupil in Fleat House at St Stephen’s–a small private boarding school in deepest Norfolk–is a shocking event that the headmaster is very keen to call a tragic accident.

But the local police cannot rule out foul play and the case prompts the return of high-flying Detective Inspector Jazmine ‘Jazz’ Hunter to the force. Jazz has her own private reasons for stepping away from her police career in London, and reluctantly agrees to front the investigation as a favour to her old boss.

Reunited with her loyal sergeant, she enters the closed world of the school and, as Jazz begins to probe the circumstances surrounding Charlie Cavendish’s tragic death, events are soon to take another troubling turn.

Charlie is exposed as an arrogant bully, and those around him had both motive and opportunity to switch the drugs he took daily to control his epilepsy.

As staff at the school close ranks, the disappearance of a young pupil and the death of an elderly classics master provide Jazz with important leads, but are destined to complicate the investigation further. As snow covers the landscape and another suspect goes missing, Jazz must also confront her personal demons . . .

Then, a particularly grim discovery at the school makes this the most challenging murder investigation of her career. Because Fleat House hides secrets darker than even Jazz could ever have imagined . . .

I do not know how she did it again but this book is again very captivating and fantastic to read or listen to. She keeps the suspense throughout without too many or to little words. I just loved it. Thanks!

Absolutely fantastically written

Excellent storytelling

I went into the story without any expectations and was positively surprised. It's not the most original, but the characters are interesting and quite likeable and the plot keeps you guessing until (almost) the very end (which does come a little abruptly, mind). Definitely not the most thrilling or exciting, but more about the detective work and figuring out the links between the characters, which I quite enjoyed. It was clearly set up to become a series, and it's a shame that's very likely not going to happen.

Detective story with some family drama

Another great book of Lucinda Riley. I hope her son goes on in her tradition. Would really like to hear more of Jas Hunter.

exciting to the end

An incredibly good narrator tells a story that could have been very good if Lucinda Riley had managed to understand the difference between her usual endless family saga novels and crime fiction.
All the characters are clichee and they act accordingly. Life isn't black or white. And people are more than the roles they get in a Lucinda Riley novel. Here the drinker simply drinks, the lawyer is simply heartless, the school principal is simply career hungry, the wife simply uses her husband, illegitimate children are by law (!!) excluded from inheriting in 21st century Britain... etc.
Had Lucinda Riley stuck to the plot instead of filling hours of text with brainless soap opera conversations, maybe she would have written a good book.
Well, she didn't.

Quantity, not quality
