George Thring runs away from home. By accident.

Depressed, lonely, and tired of life, George Thring leaves work one night but never makes it home. Before he knows it, he's driven over 200 miles in the wrong direction and finds himself in a strange little town, in the middle of nowhere, during their annual Elvis Presley appreciation festival.

As he stumbles from one mishap to another, George meets the woman of his dreams, unwittingly aids in a bank robbery, and finds himself pursued by both the police and a gang of angry criminals. With a big life decision to make, and a girl to try and win over, George is given the chance to become the hero he has always wanted to be.

But is he brave enough to take it?

Well, the narrator is in a class of his own; he would have me listening delighted to the proverbial phone book! Marvelous!
And the story took me by surprise: it’s predictable, has several slapstick elements and seems to have its length, too. But where under other circumstances I would have been annoyed I found myself really enjoying it.

It is very entertaining, a well written comedy. What I think of as easy listening, the reader carries you off into that stream of consciousness and concentration becomes effortless. I do not know how the reader could carry the performance without falling off his chair laughing. It was really funny, and a very good story.

Die Geschichte ist einerseits lustig, andererseits aber genauso vorhersehbar wie unrealistisch. Das ist aber alles egal, weil der Erzählstil dermaßen humorvoll war und der Sprecher das super rübergebracht hat. Einfach eine Wonne zum Zuhören. Ich hab es seeehr genossen!
