Über diesen Titel
The Christmas trees in Knightsbridge sparkle with festive joy, and there’s nothing more fun than Christmas cocktail parties to ring in the new year of 1922. Camille Divine, known as Lady Camille Divine, has decorated her little house in Birdcage Mews with glistening decorations and a beautiful Christmas tree, but she has more on her mind than the festive season.
Lady Phoebe Carruthers has begged Camille and her maid, Cecily, to investigate the disappearance of her personal maid. Then women begin to disappear off the street, their bodies left under the Christmas trees that stand in front of London's most popular landmarks. Something links the women who have been murdered and Phoebe's maid, and Camille is determined to find out what the connection is before another woman is murdered.
She realizes there is safety in numbers and that she can do so much more with a team of resolute women by her side, so she recruits some of our old friends, Carrie, Elsie, Dorothy, and Ida, to help her discover what happened to Phoebe's maid, and why so many women are being murdered in such a brutal way.
A novel in the 99 Nightingale Lane Publishing series.

not bad
The relationships the main protagonists has would have never existed in the 1920s. Also some phrases like " what makes someone tick" weren't in use before the 1930s. The book has some other shortcomings. It feels like this is the second and not the first book. Because Camille had a important sleuthing case before. Some of Camille's friends seem to be important, but we get little to none background. But a real problem is the absence of the aftermath of the Great War. It's not really mentioned. No brother/husband/uncle, etc.lost, no wounded soldiers begging on the streets, no mentioning of Camille's personal experiences. No book of this time period can ring true ignoring the impact this devastating war still had on people's lives especially only a few years after the armistice. Usually things like that drive me crazy and I might not finish the book. But this book is different because it was nevertheless a very enjoyable, thrilling and truly entertaining read. I couldn't stop listening and that was in big parts due to the great narrator. I understand that she is not everybody's cup of tea. But I thought her gorgeous and enjoyed her range of different voices and accents a lot. Will definitely listen to the other books in this series.
