I would recommend reading this after the first two books (Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight), as it provides backstory at the right moment, and does not spoil anything.

Pirate Lord - Celeana is 16 and she and Sam are sent on a mission where they become close to each other.
Healer - short story in Innish
Desert - Celeana is sent to spend a month training with the silent assassins.
Underworld - Back in Rifthold, she is sent on another mission and Sam helps her.
Empire - The story of how Sam dies, Celeana became captured and sent to the Salt Mines of Endovier.

good overall prequel. At times it felt unnecessary, but I can see how the stories will likely play a bigger role in the later books. Personally, I recommend reading it after Crown of Midnight. I don’t really understand why some suggest starting with it without the first two books, a lot of the context and emotional weight just wouldn’t land.

Nachdem ich die throne of glass Serie schon mehrmals gelesen und gehört habe, habe ich mich entschlossen, diese kurzen Geschichten, die vor TOG passieren, anzuhören. Was soll ich sagen? Ich bin Peitsche überrascht und werde das Hörbuch bestimmt nochmals hören. Spätestens dann, wenn ich TOG erneut lese/höre

The beginning of one of the best series of books i have ever read. Beautifully written. Strong characters. Everything else after sarah j maas sounds dull and boring.

Also vorneweg: Die Sprecherin ist toll. Ich habe ihr sehr sehr gern zugehört.
Ich bin wirklich positiv überrascht vom Auftakt der Throne of Glass Reihe. Bin gar nicht mit sehr hohen Erwartungen an dieses Buch gegangen, weil es ja eine Novelle ist und gar nicht wirklich in die Reihe gehört, man eigentlich etwas braucht sich in eine neue Fantasy-Welt einzufinden und nicht zuletzt weil ich Acotar-Reihe zwar gut, aber nicht umwerfend fand. Außderdem gibt es ja auch die Kontroverse unter Fans der Reihe, mit welchem Band man starten sollte und den Konsenz, dass die ersten Bände eher schwach sind. Kurzum: Ein stressiger, nicht sehr vielversprechender Start.
„The Assassin’s Blade“ aber hat mich wirklich gefesselt. Ich musste ein paar Mal wirklich lachen und auch zwei Mal weinen, was für mich unüblich ist. Obwohl ich fast 10 Jahre älter bin als die Protagonistin dieser Geschichte fand ich sie sehr sympathisch. Ist man manchmal frustriert von ihrer Naivität? Defintiv. Aber ihr Alter, die Umstände und ihre Geschichte lassen ihre Entscheidungen plausibel und menschlich - vor allem menschlich - erscheinen. Da sie eine ausgebildete Assassinin ist, habe ich damit gerechnet, dass die Autorin eine eiskalte und übermäßig abgehärtete Killerin aus ihr machen würde, aber glücklicherweise ist dem nicht so. Ihre Gefühlswelt wird auch beschrieben, ohne dass es in endlose innere Monologe à la „Blood and Ash“ ausufert (Gott sei Dank).
Ich bin aufrichtig gespannt auf den nächsten Band, freue mich sehr mehr über Terrasen zu erfahren und zu sehen, was aus Celeana wird. 😊

This is my first TOG book and I really liked it! The narrator is the best I’ve ever heard. She does so many distinct voices! Highly recommend!
