Avery Rhine isn’t an average homicide detective with the Chicago PD. In fact, Avery isn’t an average anything. He’s not a mere alpha, though; Graeme is a cyne who sits at the pinnacle of lupine hierarchy, so he’s obligated by tradition and duty to choose an omega now, sign a contract, and bond with him. Love is not part of the equation.
When Graeme and Avery meet, their fierce attraction to each other flies in the face of reason and logic. likeable story
I like the characters, the story and especially the narration. But there is WAY too much explaining going on

So schön... und auch spannend
Ich liebe Greg Boudreaux. Er liest einfach großartig!
Mary Calmes ist eine tolle Autorin. Sie gibt ihren Charakteren Tiefe und baut glaubwürdige Welten auf.
Wie in einer anderen Bewertung geschrieben, waren die umfangreichen Erklärungen der vielen Regeln für Omegas etwas ermüdend. Und die Tatsache, dass Avery ein kompetenter Cop und gleichzeitig ein "schwacher" Omega ist, war nicht so einfach unter einen Hut zu bringen. Aber mit etwas Schützenhilfe seines Gefährten konnte er auch den durchaus komplizierten Kriminalfall zügig aufklären.
Der ständige Verweis auf den einzig wahren "Mate" ist manchmal etwas nervig aber das gehört zu Büchern in diesem Genre wohl dazu. Und vielleicht ist man ja auch einfach nur neidisch und hätte gerne auch diesen einen speziellen Seelenverwandten nur für sich. Wer weiß?
Ich freue mich schon auf die Geschichte von Linden aber bedauere natürlich, dass sie nicht auch von Greg Boudreaux gelesen wird. Sehr schade.

Really good story
The story it self didn't come to short and the main characters wheren't always thinking about sex. But when they had sex it was hot and well written. The mc both had a strong personality.

Lovely
I really, really, really like both how lupines work in this universe, and especially how society treats the different types of wolf shifters. From Alphas to Betas and Omegas, how the power structures work and how they are integrated in normal human society.
And boy oh boy do I love Avery. He manages to be both an omega with all that comes with it - he's nurturing, kind and caring- without any of the more annoying clichés: He's no pushover, doesn't immediatrly show his throat to the next best alpha and especially isn't some kind of helpless, blushing virgin. In other words, he is a strong protagonist.
I also like Graems a lot. Being an alpha for him is mostly about taking case of others, providing and protecring. He doesn't try to change Avery once he has accepted him as his mate.
The murder investigation part of the plot was nice, not too predictable and engaging. The end had a bit of a twist which I wasn't expecting, so that was a nice surprise.
The narrator did a great job - I really loved hearing his version of the different characters.
All in all a great story I would recommend.
