Ingeniously juxtaposing the various texts, S.H. measures what she remembers against what she wrote that year, creating a dialogue between selves across decades and reframing the past in the present.

What a poet - and what a work! SH has come to a climax in her creation of art in words. She melts fictitious facts into factual fiction, dreams and dreads into sensual pleasures and horrors. It is a completely female, girlish and womanly tale of death and life and birth with a hint of knowledge of afterwards and before. Magic in the most realistic sense. I was touched and moved and interested by her earlier, younger novels and followed her non-fiction writings from a somewhat cool distance. Now I am overwhelmed by this kind of - epilogue ?
The reading by Katherine Fenton is no less than a perfect rendition. Unforgettable!
