Über diesen Titel

The legendary investor shows how to identify and master the cycles that govern the markets.

We all know markets rise and fall, but when should you pull out, and when should you stay in? The answer is never black or white, but is best reached through a keen understanding of the reasons behind the rhythm of cycles. Confidence about where we are in a cycle comes when you learn the patterns of ups and downs that influence not just economics, markets and companies, but also human psychology and the investing behaviors that result.

If you study past cycles, understand their origins and remain alert for the next one, you will become keenly attuned to the investment environment as it changes. You’ll be aware and prepared while others get blindsided by unexpected events or fall victim to emotions like fear and greed.

By following Marks’s insights - drawn in part from his iconic memos over the years to Oaktree’s clients - you can master these recurring patterns to have the opportunity to improve your results.

Starting inyo the book with the open mind I struggled to find connection with reality ie to find ideas applicable. Then, one sentence change it all: this books talks about "one in a life time" cycles that tend to occur nowadays every 10 years approx.... " AHA that's it!!! Thank you HM!

Valued insight into HM way of thinking

The other reviewers are probably right. The message is being repeated throughout the book, but - at least from my perspective - from different angles. For me, the book has still been helpful. Learning about investing is mostly repetition. As most other fields of knowledge. Get into it and give it a chance to teach you

Repeating message

The voice of the narrator or rather it's melody makes it extremely difficult to follow the story line. Unpleasant and distracting. Having managed to struggle through the half of the book, and being an MSc. economist myself, I can say that no piece of information from this book stayed in my head just because of this kind of manner of talking. A potentially interesting book ruined by unthoughtful choice of the narrator.

If you don't suffer from dementia, the 3-hour-story that is inflated to 9 hours by endless repetitions will bore you to tears after a short while. One star more for the overenthuasiastic reader which made my laugh out loud many times. I kept listening till almost the end of the book in hope some new information would be provided- but it was only repetition repeated. The book itself is as cyclic as the markets-

I found the most important thing was one of the best books in finance education and was delighted to hear about Howards new book. Unfortunately, there is only one message that can be condensed to one sentence: cycles are important, knowing where we are in a cycle is crucial. However there is few explaination how to analyse those important cycles in detail. For me it was an endless repetition of the same sentence, yes, cycles are important... But I really had expected more, much more...

Very disappointing

Howard Marks is clearly an investor with an outstanding track record. And I value the essays he has written. The key message of the book is also correct. But this book was a pure disappointment and the message could have been explained extensively on 1 to 2 pages. It’s a horrible endless repetition of the same message. The message does not only repeat from chapter to chapter. It also repeats within each chapter from sentence to sentence again and again. I couldn’t count how often the same quotes from Twain, Buffett and Galbraith appeared. How can any editor approve this kind of writing? Thus…Thus…Thus….
While listening to this audio book I felt like listening to a person suffering from dementia.
