Über diesen Titel
"She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me."
This indelible utterance stands as a momentous insult in the annals of literature, weaving its threads through the fates of two souls attracted to each other from their very first encounter. This slight birthed prejudices, kindled misunderstandings, and set ablaze a whirlwind journey for our dear couple within Jane Austen's cherished masterpiece, Pride and Prejudice.
The potency of an insult is profound, evoking diverse emotions and molding thoughts, behaviors, and engagements. Insults possess a remarkable capacity to linger in memory, casting their influence across lifetimes and permanently reshaping the path of one's existence. It is not unfair to assert that insults hold lives of their own. Regrettably, even an unborn insult has the power to reshape lives, as our dear couple discovers in this variation.
Meet Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy like no other, the embodiment of every Regency lady's romantic dream: a gentleman to the core and one who remains so even after facing numerous trials. Insults is a novel that heralds the power of true love and how it always prevails.
Insults form the fulcrum of the tale in this variation, but not in the way you think. The most infamous insult mentioned above does make an appearance, but not the way you think.
This is a Pride and Prejudice variation. It loosely follows the original work for the initial third. However, the rest of the book diverges into a completely different storyline. This is not solely a Darcy and Elizabeth novel. Listener discretion is advised.

At every turn the wrong decisions and assumptions are made and important things remain unsaid.
It is maddening.
My hope began to dwindle at the scene at Huntsford where Elisabeth without a provocation crossed the line. The pain began there. The very bad feeling was there from the start.
Darcy was perfect in this scene. A perfect proposal . From then the mude went down and I became ever more resigned. Shortly after Huntsford I considered breaking it off for the first time. As the events unfolded I thought I couldn’t take anymore. Anyone was at his worst.
In every single scene.
They do not talk. Thoughts are well and good, but they do not talk and do not listen.
They assume.
The communication is atrocious in this version.
But I consoled myself with the hope for a wonderful happy ending and fought on.
By 2/3th of the story I felt a resigned and painful ache in my chest.
It hurt. The anger, the resignation, the lost hope, sadness and helplessness was too much.
I feel bruised after finishing this audiobook. The ache has not receded and it is two days ago when I finished it.
This story is brutal, cruel to us and the Heroes of the story.
E and D are to passive just as anyone else. Intentions (except E’s that is) are good but they stay just intentions. In the most critical moments the readers hope WILL be disappointed! Well the hope will be disappointed at any time. Avoidance unhappiness and silence rule the story.
The happy End came as promised by the author (my interpretation is not as positive) , but by then I couldn’t feel anything but resignation and a dall ache in my chest.
The End doesn’t compensate for the brutality of the goings on till then.
It was too much sorrow and bad luck.
This is an absolute worst case scenario.
I must compliment the author for her use of tension. It is very well made. She captured my emotions and send them through a thunderstorm, tossed them around and left me brokenhearted.
I love Pride and prejudice.
I’ve listened to a hundred of variations and know the canon by heard.
But this one is the one in which I was most engaged and most agitated.
I do not recall how often I sat with my Head in my hands and simply hoped that the agony would stop soon.
I feel still bruised.
I believe the impact on my sensibilities was so big, that I will not listen to another variation for a time.
You will understand if you decide to listen to it.
I will not listen to it again, I cannot go through it again.
This is no lighthearted experience.
It is a punch in the gut for every P&P lover.
But I cannot say that it was a bad book. The writing was good. And the author knows how to keep up the pace, the frequent switch of perspectives and the suspense is good regulated and brings the listener to the brink of madness.
At the end I was resigned. And hurt.
For my taste it was too much negativity in this story. I couldn’t take it anymore.
I couldn’t take the characters anymore.
I got very impatient for the story to finish.
I’m must say that I’m am not one to break a story off lightly.
A few variations I listened to were so stupid or bad that I stopped it. But this was not one of them.
The writing was good. If maddening.
It tells much I think that Lady Catherine was my favourite character. But even she was impassive at times.
And I find that impassivity is one of the most critical faults of all of the characters (except Miss Bingley), along with manipulation, and of cause prejudice on Elisabeth’s part. I almost hate Elisabeth in this story. She is cruel and very very stupid. Her intelligence doesn’t show up in this story. It is talked about, but it never makes an appearance. She is very much out of character.
Darcy is perfect in thoughts, but makes at every turn the wrong decision and I believe they have only one conversation in which they talk open without disguise and that is a quarter of an hour before the eager awaited stop of the whole torture.
And still the torment wend on after that.
In this story I repeatedly cried in desperation:
“Noooooooo!!!!!!” and
“Say something!!!!!”
and
“Do something!!!!!”
But no. The dread started very soon. In the second chapter I believe.
But no. Nothing good happens in this story.
And for my taste the HE doesn’t compensate at all for all the agony this author took me through!!!!
Not at all!!!!!
It was too much for my taste.
I will refrain from listening to another one by this author.
I can take no more.
There are certainly many people who can appreciate this book to the fullest. And it is a good book, but far too negative for my taste!
Cruel to the hopeful reader.
