    Inhaltsangabe

Croaker has fallen and, following the Company's disastrous defeat at Dejagore, Lady is one of the few survivors - determined to avenge the Company and herself against the Shadowmasters, no matter what the cost. But in assembling a new fighting force from the dregs and rabble of Taglios, she finds herself offered help by a mysterious, ancient cult of murder--competent, reliable, and apparently committed to her goals.

Meanwhile, far away, Shadowmasters conspire against one another and the world, weaving dark spells that reach into the heart of Taglios. And in a hidden grove, a familiar figure slowly awakens to find himself the captive of an animated, headless corpse. Mercilessly cutting through Taglian intrigues, Lady appears to be growing stronger every day. All that disturbs her are the dreams which afflict her by night--dreams of carnage, of destruction, of universal death, unceasing....

Love the story but can't stand the new narrator

Unfortunately the new narrator really doesn't fit the story in my opinion. It's a really high pitched female voice that stands in such strong contrast to the dark and gloomy stroy. Really wished there was an option with another narrator.

    Narrator

Great book, but the narrator is quite miscast. The book is narrated by Lady so, as with The Silver Spike, Audible decided to have a matching narrator voice. In this case, the narrator is a she. While the narrator is very good, the problem is that she sounds like a youngish woman and, as a result, can't properly imitate male voices.

This leads to the unfortunate consequence of the sections where the Lady speaks or narrates being very good and the sections where past, established male characters speak sounds very goofy. To put it bluntly, every male character sounds like he either has an awful cold or like he's a 14-year-old boy living in Hogwarts.

I think this wouldn't be much of an issue with a standalone book, but, if you are binging the series, it will take a while to get used to everybody sounding much younger than they did a book ago.

After 5 books they swap to a female speaker and it is terrible.
infact the reading is so bad after 5 minutes of listening i had to turn it off and buy the book to read it myself....

    Great Performance

I think only Rosario Dawson could do it better. Given that Marc Visitor did Croaker.
