Kate Parker, a native New Yorker, had a difficult time in her teenage years. She was filled with loneliness and despair after her father abandoned her and her mother, Maddy. When she receives an invitation to relocate to Southern California, Kate has self-doubt meeting new people and leaving her hometown. When the family is invited to a community party, Kate meets the Carrington family. Getting to know this family, she becomes attached to Callen, the younger brother, and develops a friendship with a self-taught landscaper, Garrett, the older brother. She discovers there is a rift between the brothers and feels the need to unlock the reason why they are divided.
