Über diesen Titel
Lizzy Bennet is a hot mess. She’s about to marry a man she doesn’t love, and she’s sporting a case of cold feet so severe her toes are surely blue. Between her mother’s arrangements, her ridiculous gown, and her stick-in-the-mud fiancé’s compulsive personality traits, she simply can’t go through with the disaster awaiting her.
With the help of her best friend, she can stay at Will Darcy’s for the holidays, but to say Will’s good looking is an understatement! She just ran out on her wedding, the last thing she needs is man, but how is she supposed to resist the dark-haired hottie in Clark Kent glasses? Not to mention watching him interact with his daughter only adds fuel to the fire. Oh, holy heck! She’s about to endure the longest Christmas ever!
Will Darcy leads a quiet life with his daughter and housekeeper. He doesn’t need a wife or a girlfriend disturbing his peace and upending little Georgie’s holidays, so when his cousin brings Lizzy Bennet to Will’s house to hide from her crazy family, he balks. He will not suffer through another one of his cousin’s maniacal matchmaking plots! But Lizzy is… Could his cousin have finally gotten something right? No, that can’t be.
Something has to be wrong with her, doesn’t it? But for the life of him, Will can’t find a single objection—and he’s tried! What’s he supposed to do if she’s living in his house for the holidays, eating at his kitchen table, and lounging on his sofa? She’s either going to make him lose his mind or his heart. But which is worse?
©2023 L.L. Diamond (P)2024 L.L. DiamondWill lives a quiet life with his daughter, he surely needs no woman at his side. Especially not when his cousin brings her to his home in what seems to be another of his matchmaking attempts. But Will is thoroughly attracted to Lizzy. Could it be that his cousin finally got something right.
Will Elizabeth find the courage to interact with a man so soon after she flew from her wedding? Will Darcy let Elizabeth in his heart after years of being a single dad? And what does his little daughter think about it?
The story was very well written by the author LL Diamond. I always like her stories very much and I enjoyed this one very much. It's a modern variation that takes place around the Christmas holidays. The story is not overly long (164 p. / 4 h 0 min) and is therefore perfect for the busy time before Christmas.
The story is written in the first person narrative from various points of views, but mostly from Will and Lizzy’s.
The characters were masterfully put in this modern story. You recognize their original characters but at the same time they are new people who fit in this, their own story, in a natural way. It was very well done by the author.
I really liked the development of the relationship between Lizzy and Will. There was not much drama, it was only two people who are attracted to one another and who realize by spending time together that they love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together. Sometimes it is that simple ;-) … I liked the chemistry they have with one another. It was beautifully written how the sparks between them fly and how they are secretly watching each other.
I love Richard and Georgie. Richard is such a good and loyal friend to Lizzy and he equally looks after his cousin in a caring way. He is definitely the sort of best friend one might hope for oneself.
Georgie is adorable in this story. She is so cute in her interactions with everyone and I like the way she accepts Lizzy with open arms in her family.
What was very well done was, in my opinion, the setting of the story (forced proximity around the holidays). This gives Will and Lizzy the chance to get to know each other very well in a short time. Therefore one also can explain why they rush to the altar when it is not as required to be together today as it was in regency time.
Besides Mrs Bennet who wants to see her daughter settled with a man she does not like or love, there are no villains in the story. That is really a balm because, in my opinion, a Christmas story does not naturally need many villains.
The story was narrated by Scarlett Mae Clarke. At the beginning I thought I would not like her narration because she speaks with an American accent. Maybe it was only because the first person speaking was Mrs Bennet. Later I enjoyed Scarlett Mae Clarke's narration very much and found it fitting for this audiobook.
If you like to know if fleeing from her own wedding will lead to happiness for Lizzy you should definitely listen to this excellent audiobook.
I highly recommend it
