Über diesen Titel

When plotting mistletoe mischief, always check for lurking gentlemen—especially the tall, dark, and brooding kind.

It was supposed to be a simple holiday mission: whisk away heartbroken Jane and ailing Charlotte to London's glittering festivities for some much-needed Christmas cheer. But as I, Elizabeth Bennet, quickly learned, nothing's ever simple when a certain gentleman is involved.

For starters, there is Mr. Darcy, always appearing at the most inopportune moments—like under the very mistletoe branch I had my sights on! Between plum pudding, party mishaps, and an uncanny ability to be exactly where I don't want him, Mr. Darcy might just be the biggest holiday hurdle. It is just my luck that he happens to be a dazzling kisser.

Will we find joy, love, and a few stolen kisses amidst the yuletide chaos? Or will I have to pen another guide titled, 'How to Keep Stubborn Gentlemen from Stealing Your Heart'?

Join me in a festive frolic where hearts, hopes, and mistletoe hang in the balance.

After the Netherfield ball it is decided that Jane and Elizabeth are to spend a season in town, staying with uncle and aunt Gardiner. They are accompanied by Elizabeth's friend Charlotte. Charlotte struggles with health issues and Elizabeth hopes that a season in town will help her friend and bring her some romantic moments like kisses under the mistletoe. And there is also still the romance between Jane and Bingley to consider. Elizabeth is arranging everything when a brooding gentleman from Derbyshire also shows up at all events that Elizabeth attends. And he does not only disturb her plans, he also leaves her in total confusion about the state of her own heart.
Will Elizabeth be able to arrange some romantic moments for her sister and her friend without missing her own opportunity for happiness? And what about Darcy? Is he willing to admit his growing feelings for the scheming Miss Elizabeth from Hertfordshire?

Alix James' first Christmas story is a delight and left me with a warm feeling and much Christmas cheer.

The story is written from Elizabeth's point of view and contains many witty remarks from the impertinent Miss from Hertfordshire. There are many laugh out loud moments in it. This way of narrating gives us also the opportunity to partake in Elizabeth's feelings and thoughts about the different situations she experiences. Especially when it comes to the encounters with Darcy we as readers are able to experience with her the feelings of falling in love and we also discover with her the true character of the gentleman.

I really like that the story takes place very soon after the Netherfield ball, the place where all things happen is London. Bingley's party and the Bennet girls are not very long separated. Misunderstandings and resentments have not much time to develop. And the Bennet sisters going to London means that there are no interruptions or mortification from the family (they are still at Longbourn), which makes it easier, especially for Elizabeth.

There are some misunderstandings between Darcy and Elizabeth. But to encounter each other so often in company they are quick to resolve them and shyly begin something like friendship which soon becomes more. I like that Elizabeth is able to discover other sides of Darcy, that he is kind and generous and cares for his friends and relatives. I especially like that she is able to observe him with his sister and discover the loving brother.

I also like the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. Darcy flirts with Elizabeth and Elizabeth admires him ever so much. The attraction between the two is palpable. This leads to lovely scenes between the two for example at the New year's celebrations.

The friendship between Elizabeth and Charlotte was al
so something I really liked in that book. Elizabeth would do nearly everything to see her friend happy. That is also something Elizabeth and Darcy have in common: they would do everything for their friends and their family.

The audiobook was narrated by Adrian Blythe. I must confess at first I was skeptical how this should work: an audiobook from Elizabeth’s point of view narrated by a man. But let me assure you, it works perfectly well. Adrian Blythe is a perfect choice for this audiobook and I enjoyed his narration very much. So much so that this audiobook is now on my list of favorite audiobooks. I will definitely listen to it again soon. His narration made an already excellent book even better.

If you like Darcy and Elizabeth getting to know each other better and discovering love around Christmas you should definitely listen to this lovely audiobook.

I highly recommend it.
