The GDR as it was
This book tells the real story of the country where I was born and where I lived for 18 years until the fall of the Wall. That was the GDR as we knew it - with all the pros and cons. Many thanks to Katja Hoyer for this authentic and realistic book.
Everything is excellently researched and written. Sam Peter Jackson tells the story in an exciting, entertaining way.

interesting, even entertaining
In my opinion a very differentiated, balanced and informative book. I was born in the GDR, though.

Rose-tinted view of the GDR
Katja describes the development of the GDR very precisely. However, her judgement of the everyday life and the feelings of the citizens of the GDR about its society and government seem to be biased, to put it lightly.
