Cant wait for the next part

The author manages to create a new fantasy world that is no less fascinating than the one of Alex Verus. The story itself is catching and REALLY leaves me longing for more.
I especially appreciate the effort the author makes to take you along the thinking process of the main character - you don’t end up with the feeling of “no one would act that way in reality” I get from other books.

Perfect

I hate three things about this:
First: Why was it over so fast?!
Second: Why, oh, why do I have to wait so long for the next book (well, obvious of course, but waily, waily!) ?!
Third: Why didn´t have that great idea?!

No, fun over: All stories have been told. And still in fantasy I grave for books which tell the same old story, but do it in a very new way. This is so with the books of Benedict Jacka. He offers new settings and very unexpected twists that keeps me attached until the last word. Yes, the story is about a young man, figuring out that he has special powers, enters an ever growing and complex world of, well, wizzardry (not really true here) and fights his way through it. Do you know the plot?

But this approach is so good and interesting that it I could say: I its new and asthonishing. Which is exactly what I love.
So to everyone who loves well established and complex characters, and an all new setup plus a very good built: this is your book.

Großartiger Start in eine neue Reihe

Wie von Jacka gewohnt ist dieser Band sehr gut geschrieben, die Geschichte ist packend und macht Lust auf mehr. Der britische Sprecher ist fantastisch.

Sehr gute geschichte aber gilbert jakson als sprecher war besser der aus den alexander virus nocels

criticism

If I had one criticism of the book, I'd say it's too short. Hope part 2 is on its way already...

Great start for a new series

After really liking the Alex Verus series I'm glad that 'An Inhertitance of Magic' starts of strongly and promises entertainment for years to come. While there are some similarities to the Versus books e.g. that people at the top of the food chain are generally evil and untrustworthy, there is also plenty new and creative. The magic and the ways to use it, is something I never read/heard before even after 200+ fantasy books.

The one critique I have, is that the book contains a ton of exposition even for a first part of a series. None the less it is neatly wrapped into a interesting story and never becomes boring. Still, I hope there is less explanation in the next part :)

Very interesting start to a new series.

Having read Jackas previous series, I couldn’t wait to jump into the new one. And I really wasn’t disappointed. Yes, it’s basically one long introduction and everything is still being build up. But that’s to be expected, when considering, that it’s supposed to be a long running series. There is a lot of groundwork to be done.
And even doing that, I think that the story being told in it is satisfying and very entertaining.
I want to give my respect to the narrator as well. In the first third of the book, there are some scenes, that I found rather intense and that were read beautifully to support the emotions and feeling of these scenes.

Good start Mr Jacka …

i just hope it isnt Alex verus the second coming i see the parallels already another evil Magician ,a world that just doesn’t accept and another choice to be naive what will it be an origin story or a masterpiece

Great start to a new magic series

Interesting magic concept that the reader gradually learn through the eyes of the protagonist. Good balance of foreshadowing and not giving away too much and character development. Alreald looking forward to the next installment.
