"Screwtape Proposes a Toast" by C.S. Lewis is a satirical and thought-provoking work that serves as an addendum to Lewis's earlier masterpiece, "The Screwtape Letters." In this sequel, Lewis revisits the demonic bureaucracy of Hell, presenting the senior demon Screwtape delivering a toast to a group of graduating demons.

Thomas More's "Utopia" is a complex, innovative and insightful contribution to the development of political thought. The culmination of this work was a description of a country whose society lives according to the laws of nature, but is close to the ideas of the religion of Christianity - they have everything in common and gold is not valuable to them. Based on the ideas of Plato, St. Augustine and Aristotle, the Utopia novel has borne fruit, namely the dawn of new utopian and anti-utopian literature that includes the writings of such writers as Francis Bacon, Herbert Wells, Aldous Huxley and George Ourell.

Mark Twain wrote this letter to his 3-year-old daughter from Santa Claus in 1875. You could say he was over the moon for her: "My Dear Susy Clemens, I have received and read all the letters which you and your little sister have written me . . . . I can read your and your baby sister's jagged and fantastic marks without any trouble at all. But I had trouble with those letters which you dictated through your mother and the nurses, for I am a foreigner and cannot read English writing well".

What do people expect from the shop car at the station? They are impatiently waiting for boots, kerosene, and various materials from the cooperators, like calico and coarse calico. But in the shop, of all materials, there is only velvet, black ... beer!

"Concerning Chambermaids" is a work by American writer Mark Twain. The short story was written in 1896. The author enumerates the bachelor's curses towards the chambermaids who always put the pillows in the wrong end of the bed and so on with the inimitable humor.

Aurelia's Unfortunate Young Man is a short story by Mark Twain, one of the most funny and beloved American authors of all time. Aurelia is engaged to marry a nice young man, but keeps having to postpone as tragedy after tragedy befalls him. Which should be sad, but the progression of events is so ridiculous that you can't help but laugh.

Our esteemed friend, Mr. John William Skae, of Virginia City, walked into the office where we are sub-editor at a late hour last night, with an expression of profound and heartfelt suffering upon his countenance, and, sighing heavily, laid the following item reverently upon the desk, and walked slowly out again. He paused a moment at the door, and seemed struggling to command his feelings sufficiently to enable him to speak, and then, nodding his head toward his manuscript, ejaculated in a broken voice, "Friend of mine – oh! how sad!" and burst into tears.

The steamer Ajax encountered a terrible storm on her down trip from San Francisco to the Sandwich Islands. It tore her light spars and rigging all to shreds and splinters, upset all furniture that could be upset, and spilled passengers around and knocked them hither and thither with a perfect looseness. For forty-eight hours no table could be set, and everybody had to eat as best they might under the circumstances. Most of the party went hungry, though, and attended to their praying.

Sketches New and Old is a collection of short stories by Mark Twain. It was published in 1875. All the stories are fictional except for "The Case of George Fisher." It includes the short story "A Ghost Story", among others. Twain's early career as a newspaper reporter and sketch writer demonstrates the messiness of his early relationship to the American periodical landscape.

Mark Twain ponders the usefulness of insurance coverage. "Coming down from Sacramento the other night, I found on a center-table in the saloon of the steamboat, a pamphlet advertisement of an Accident Insurance Company. It interested me a good deal, with its General Accidents, and its Hazardous Tables, and Extra-Hazardous furniture of the same description, and I would like to know something more about it. It is a new thing to me. I want to invest if I come to like it. I want to ask merely a few questions of the man who carries on this Accident shop".

There are moments in life when one finds oneself unexpectedly surrounded. Young Bingo would describe it as fate. Others might use stronger language. In Clustering Round Young Bingo , P. G. Wodehouse gathers the usual elements of civilized disaster: romantic enthusiasm, social overreaction, and the looming shadow of Aunt Dahlia's magazine enterprise. Bingo, whose emotional decisions tend to arrive faster than his reasoning, becomes the centre of an intricate social arrangement involving a highly questionable article and a domestic crisis that even the finest French chef cannot resolve.

Some men are born to lead. Others are born to follow. Bertie Wooster, however, was born to regard the legal system as something that happens to other people—preferably at a safe distance. In Without the Option , P. G. Wodehouse sends Bertie hurtling from harmless celebration into the dignified horror of British justice, where a misplaced moment of enthusiasm for a policeman's helmet has entirely proper consequences.

Some afternoons are civilized. Others involve Old Biffy. Most fellows remember their own weddings. Some even remember where they left their hats. But Biffy? Biffy has somehow managed to misplace a fiancée in the middle of London — while also forgetting which hotel he's staying at in Paris. In The Rummy Affair of Old Biffy , P. G. Wodehouse launches listeners headfirst into the delightfully impractical world of Jeeves and Wooster.

There are few safer places in literature than the world of P. G. Wodehouse — unless, of course, Bertie Wooster has decided to solve somebody's problem personally. Carry On, Jeeves gathers some of the most sparkling adventures from the immortal partnership of Bertie and Jeeves: a universe of country houses, impossible engagements, terrifying aunts, and social disasters unfolding with impeccable elegance. Here, good intentions routinely become catastrophes, friendships are tested by alarming schemes, and even an ordinary afternoon may spiral into comic ruin.

Some problems announce themselves loudly. Others arrive quietly with tea, civility, and a completely ruined afternoon. In Fixing it for Freddie, P. G. Wodehouse demonstrates that helping a friend is rarely a straightforward moral gesture—it is more often a carefully staged descent into social confusion. Freddie, suffering from a bruised heart and a spectacular lack of judgment, requires assistance of the delicate kind.

Some men dream of changing society. Others simply hope to survive luncheon without disgrace. In Comrade Bingo , P. G. Wodehouse unleashes another round of romantic confusion, social acrobatics, and impeccably polished nonsense. Bertie Wooster finds himself observing a world in which revolutionary ideals, aristocratic habits, and spectacularly poor decisions coexist far too comfortably. At the center of it all is Bingo Little — enthusiastic, impressionable, and once again dangerously in love.

Some decisions are made with great seriousness. Others are made, reconsidered, revised, and ultimately regretted—usually by Bertie Wooster. In Bertie Changes His Mind , P. G. Wodehouse explores the delicate art of mental revision under pressure. This time, however, the situation is observed with the calm detachment of Jeeves, who watches his employer's latest conviction shift with alarming speed. Bertie's sudden enthusiasm leads him into a sequence of decisions involving unexpected responsibility and an ill-advised journey to Brighton.

There are times when life requires initiative, decisiveness, and a certain strength of character. Fortunately for Bertie Wooster, he has Jeeves. Between the delicate politics of high society and the quiet catastrophes of everyday existence, authority proves to be a surprisingly fluid arrangement — one that Jeeves manages with unruffled calm, alarming precision, and impeccable timing. With P. G. Wodehouse, no predicament is ever quite as serious as it seems, and no social disaster beyond elegant correction — provided the right gentleman is in attendance. When in doubt… leave it to Jeeves.

"There are moments when a man feels he has the upper hand… and then there are the moments immediately after." In Scoring off Jeeves , Bertie Wooster is quietly confident that, just this once, he has managed to get the better of his otherwise infallible valet. A small victory, perhaps—but in a life so frequently guided, corrected, and discreetly improved, it feels like a triumph of historic proportions. Naturally, this cannot possibly last.
