Jack London's classic adventure story about the friendship developed between a Yukon gold hunter and the mixed dog-wolf he rescues from the hands of a man who mistreats him. White Fang is a companion novel and thematic mirror to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild.

Born in the unforgiving wilderness of the Yukon Territory of Canada, White Fang, a fierce wolfdog shunned by his adoptive family, fights tooth and nail to survive amongst brutal beasts, wolves and hunter men. But when he's shown unexpected kindness from Weedon Scott, a man who takes White Fang in after rescuing him from a dog-fighting ring, he slowly begins to change. The once ferocious and aggressive White Fang becomes gentler, discovering that loyalty and love can tame even the wildest of hearts.

This is the story of a wild dog's journey toward becoming civilized in the Canadian Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush, at the end of the 19th Century. The book is characteristic of London's precise prose style and innovative use of voice and perspective, with much of the novel written from the view-point of the animals. White Fang examines (sometimes graphically) the violent world of wild dogs and the equally violent world of supposedly civilized humans.

Wronged by human and beast alike, White Fang has endured through brazen ferocity. An enemy of his kind, he is sold to a dogfighter who pits him against other canines to the death - until a Yukon gold hunter comes to his rescue and provides an opportunity for a new life. As the wolf in White Fang sleeps, kindness and compassion allow him to understand what it means to be in the confidence of man.

Jack London's follow-up to his enormously popular debut novel "The Call of the Wild," "White Fang" once again brings the listener back into the frozen Yukon, this time following the life and adventures of a half-wolf puppy growing up in a brutal wilderness where the basic rule of survival is: kill or be killed.

Can brutality be redeemed? Is savagery innate from birth, or is created by an unforgiving environment? What exactly are the origins of the awareness of right and wrong – and are these concepts absolute, or variable? London explores these questions in his masterful work, "White Fang." Their applicability to humans, even more than to animals, makes these questions vital for people of any world and in any era.

This is Jack London's companion piece to The Call of the Wild and is the story of the life of a dog who is mostly wolf. Set in the Canadian wilderness during the Gold Rush, the tale opens with his birth in the wild and subsequent deliverance to a Mackenzie Indian named Grey Beaver. We follow him growing from puppyhood among the Indians, through a career as a "fighting wolf" for a despicable owner, to his ulltimate rescue by a kindly Southerner.

As with The Call of the Wild, White Fang explores a world in which animals and men depend on each other for survival. The story of a dog who is part wolf has lasted because Jack London gives each of his animals a personality. London's narratives are more than epics of hardship and survival; the are morality plays in which virtuous good triumphs over corrupt evil.

White Fang, written by Jack London, tells the story of a half-wolf, half-dog nearly destroyed by the vicious cruelty of men. Near death, White Fang is rescued by Weeden Scott, who takes him home to California. White Fang learns to love his new master, and repays his kindness by saving Scott's father from a criminal who tries to kill him.

A story that takes place during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush. White Fang is a wild wolf-dog hybrid who, through a series of dramatic twists and turns, grows to become a savage, callous, morose, solitary, and deadly fighter. But one day his life starts to change when a loving master named Weedon Scott, a rich, young gold hunter, buys him and starts a desperate attempt to tame White Fang.

This is the sensitive entry into the mind of an animal of mixed parentage. Part dog, part wolf, White Fang's experiences in the wild and with the "man-animals" and his "love master" are sometimes frightening, yet often moving.
