Considered by many to be the first autobiography/memoir ever written, Confessions is a retrospective view of a life challenged by uncertainty, doubt, human frailty, and earthly desires. Augustine discovers and cherishes a deeply personal relationship with his God, all while describing the day-to-day dealings of his life in the fading, corrupt days of the Roman Empire.

A story of spiritual awakening, St. Augustine's Confessions is a fascinating look at the life of an eminent Christian thinker. Widely seen as one of the first Western autobiographies ever written, it chronicles the life and religious struggles of Augustine of Hippo, from his days as a self-confessed sinner to his acceptance of Christianity as an older adult.

The Confessions of Saint Augustine is one of the most influential works of Christian literature, philosophy, and spiritual autobiography. Written as a direct address to God, the book follows Augustine's journey from childhood and youthful ambition through intellectual searching, moral struggle, conversion, and the discovery of faith. More than a personal memoir, the work explores memory, desire, sin, grace, truth, time, free will, and the restless search for meaning.

For 50 years, John B. Cobb, Jr. has been teaching listeners that theology is not confined to biblical and doctrinal exegesis but rightly includes economics, politics, education, and science. His prophetic warnings about climate change date back to the early 1970s; his critiques of higher education and American foreign policy are incisive. But for all the pertinence of his views, Cobb has refrained from giving them full expression until now. In the preface to this book, which he aptly names his confession, Cobb writes:

Confessions is the name of an autobiographical work, consisting of 13 books, by Saint Augustine of Hippo, written in Latin between 397 and 400 AD. The work outlines Saint Augustine's sinful youth and his conversion to Christianity. It is widely seen as the first Western autobiography ever written, and Professor Henry Chadwick wrote that Confessions will "always rank among the great masterpieces of western literature."

"The Confession of Pontius Pilate" is a fascinating dramatic dialogue between Pontius Pilate and his close friend Fabricius in which he recounts, from his perspective, the events surrounding the trial, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
