You Said 100 Miles? started as the story of Bucket Hat Bob diving into the world of ultrarunning. It started with a couch to 5K in 2020, and just kept escalating through finishing a 100 mile race in 2023. Originally envisioned as a limited series, the community has kept Bucket Hat Bob on the air. Season 1 with co-host Sass is the original run and story of that build. Season 2 is some experimental interviewing. Today, we're continuing season 3 with co-host KJ covering all sorts of ultrarunning topics (and museums) along with guests from the running community along the way. Come to the trails. We have snacks!2023 Team Puma Knife Sozialwissenschaften
  • Tricerabottoms
    Jul 1 2026

Bob is out of injury jail — sort of. The bone bruise still won't quit, so there's now a rigid carbon plate living in one shoe, a health-insurance mystery he refuses to let go of, and a certain very-trending procedure finally checked off the list. Meanwhile KJ preps for Badwater the only sensible way: baking in his condo sauna until he's a certified Heat Champion (belt included), then cramming a Furnace 50K, Eastern States, and a wedding into the same three weeks.

We recap Western States from the couch — Tammy Hellings' incredible late rally, the new pole and traction-device rules, and Oak's fateful portapotty miscalculation — then coin the term ultrarunning has been missing: the tricerabottom (you'll have to listen). Captain's Corner heads to the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library in Staunton (pronounced "Stanton"), Bob strikes out at the Met but wins Central Park, KJ visits the Flight 93 Memorial, and caps it off with a surprise first-place relay leg at Laurel Highlands. Back in about a month — we'll make July happen.

  • Green Bank, Giant Dishes
    May 30 2026

KJ tours the Green Bank Observatory inside West Virginia's radio-quiet zone (no cell phones, very big dishes) and runs the WV Trail Festival at Snowshoe — fog, a pizza-oven aid station, and a website worth copying. Bob hits Cedar Point and the Field Museum's Pokémon Fossil exhibit while nursing a bone bruise. We do actually talk some about ultrarunning: Cocodona, controversial finishes, running funks, volunteering and finding running joy again. No swimming, no depressing shit.

  • Hyner Recap (or: Bob Wore Two Watches)
    Apr 30 2026

Bob and KJ reconvene to recap the Hyner 50K — Paul left it all out there at 6:06, Elliot had a solid day, KJ ran his fastest Hyner ever despite a deeply unwise dive bar pizza the night before, and Bob rolled his ankle at mile 4, kicked the other foot into a rock, ran out of water, and DNF’d at mile 16. Allegedly while wearing two watches. The cake table at the finish line is real, and SOB Hill earned its name.

Also on deck: Bob tours the First Division Museum at Cantigny, KJ paces Motivation Theory Running to a big PR at the C&O Canal 100, then walks up the AT to Jefferson’s Rock, lipoprotein(a), KJ pitches a fix the Western States lottery and Bob counters with an Olympic-style qualifier race (held at Hyner, naturally).

Bob previews a new feature for ChatDNF that might actually be useful for people to come out soon, maybe. Until then, go write your DNF story at https://chatdnf.com.
